2001 Hyundai Accent 167,000 miles

My car is going thru aproximately 1 qt of oil every other week. No leaks, no smoke and no smell. Valve cover gasket has been replaced.

Any ideas what is happening. Car runs great, 42 + mpg.
Please help me out before I invest alot of money on troubleshooting.

Your motor is burning it off,it's just at such a slow rate that between the emmissions on the motor and the slow leak your not able to see any smoke,a shop can do a leakdown test and pinpoint where the leakage is,it may be as simple as replacing the head gasket.

At 167,000 miles there will be wear on the piston bores and rings this means you will be burning off oil even during normal running

Standing test is to make sure that the car is in park and get someone to really rev the engine for a few seconds let it die down and do it again repeat this 6 or so times and I bet you will see a thin blue smoke coming from the muffler

1 a simple compression test will tell you if the rings and valves are bad. thats where you start.. 2 it could be an oil leak under the vehicle , you will see a black spot. do this first it only takes a look whee you park it on dry clean pavement or place a clean piece of cardboard under it.

Why is my 2007 Nissan sentra 2.0 using 1 qt of oil every 600 miles?

More than likely u have a leaking valve cover gasket unless your seeing smoke than it might have a burnt valve guide or guides if its smoking real bad than it could have bad rings and you don't want that cause then u half to tear the motor down basically rebuilding the motor

Smoke comin from top rocker cover smell like burnin oil

Could the smoke be coming from the exhaust manifold on the passenger side of the engine? When the valve cover starts to leak, it is common for the oil to leak down and burn on the outside of the exhaust manifold.
Replacing a valve cover gasket is not difficult or expensive, and it is common for BMW valve cover gaskets to get brittle and shrink and start leaking every 10 years or so. My wife's 330 needed a new valve cover gasket at 6 years.

2004 gmc yukon lite came on low oil pressure just had oil change 5 days ago checked it was low about a qt. Has 157,000 miles what can be the cause

There can be alot of causes, such as valve covers leaking, oil pan gasket leaking, oil filter leaking, rear main seal leaking, front timing chain cover seal or gasket leaking even bad rings. Does it smoke out of the back? Your valve seals could be leaking. Best way to find out if you have a leak is to inspect the valve covers manually, or take newspapers and lay them under the entire engine on the ground, and it will leave the tell tale stain of a leak. Hope this helps.

2001 Toyota Highlander: Extremely high oil usage on highway, about 1 qt per 250 miles. No such problem whatsoever in the city. No oil leak on driveway. Very reproducible, so quite a mystery.

the best way to find a oil leak is to get a better look go under the car and look at the oil pan for any signs of leakage open your hood and look around the valve covers and intake for leakage these are the normal places oil will leak from first. second i would watch the exhaust for white or blueish white smoke and third i would pull the plugs to see if there is oil being burned.

I have a 2001 Saturn L. Oil is leaking, it is not the head gasket. Tore engine apart and replaced gaskets. Stopped leaking for about 6-7 months and it started to leak again. Did oil change last week...

If you have no visible signs of oil leaking out of the engine then the oil is being burnt. By visible leaking I mean a small puddle of oil under the car after having been left overnight. This can be cured by replacing shaft seals and gaskets. Burning oil is visible as smoke under deceleration (no throttle) and under full power(flooring it). This is due to worn/old valve stem seals(smoke under deceleration) and worn oil rings(smoke under acceleration) This can only be cured by a major engine overhaul or engine replacement. Bear in mind that losing a pint of oil in 1000 miles is acceptable.

3.8engine using oil 1 qt week

Your pcv system is designed to handle normal amounts of internal crankcase pressures. If your rings are a bit worn, you will have higher internal pressure that can and will drive oil out through pcv or sometimes even the dipstick tube. This wear can be detected by doing a cylinder leakdown test (air is blown into each cylinder and the amount of pressure drop is measured) . If leakdown is greater than normal, you will then need to decide if it is worth it to do a ring replacement (major job), drive it as is and perhaps use a heavier oil, or sell it. If your engine uses any other venting for the crankcase, make sure that is not plugged up (I don't remember seeing anything lkie that on your engine though)

Oil consumption, no smoke, no leaks

Oil consumption can be when the piston rings worn out, also valve gaides worn out.
means engine oil passes through the combustion chamber, you cant see smoke sometimes.but when condition of the piston ring is wost you can see smoke behind the exhaust.
