Question about 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

Mine has done it 5 times now.

I will be driving along- under power-and it just dies. I reach down ,put it into neutral and turn the key and it starts right up again.Although, the last time it did it I had to turn the key 3 times to get it to start. It is scary to know you are without power on a busy highway. I am also scared to death it will die when I am crossing a busy highway sometime. I have had it to the dealer- and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I love my little red Alero and don't want to get rid of it but now that the warranty is up I am almost afraid to keep it.

Nope- that was checked. In fact I believe I even had them replace it just to be sure. What is scaring me is it is happening with much more frequency now. Happened Sunday and again Monday. Hubby was driving when it happened Sunday and thinks it is a buss fuse (sp?)

Driving along lights dimmed, instrument panel died, loss of power then engine cut out & wouldn't start. Starts with a jump but when i turn key to heat glow plug, instrument panel goes mad

I assume there's a problem with alternator. Check the grounding to engine, check continuity of a positive wire between alternator and battery. the energizing voltage should be checked as well. Might be the bad connection between battery and vehicle body grounding. Diesel cars are sensitive even in a little loss of connection and rust in the connection points.

I have a 1997 Saab se turbo 2.0 the check gearbox light comes on then a week or so later will go out any help would be great thanks keith

Check engine and check gearbox on an automatic...neutral safety switch is going out. First couple starts like that and it seems like it's in limp home is. A few more starts and it will reset itself. Mine did so reliably at the 5th restart until I changed it.

Get a used on if you can, they are not really rebuildable reliably. Pain to change, it's under the battery tray and miserable to get to.

I have 1993 Honda Accord, now 4 times it has mysteriosly just turned off middle of driving. Power simply turns off, I am forced to but emergecny lights on and steer to the side of the road. Interestingly...

Do the dash warning lights work when you turn the key to the run or crank position. If not you may have a bad ignition switch which is pretty common for those years.

Car dies

Your 94 should be a 350 engine,is it?
That would be a timing chain, which means the distributor cap was removed to locate cylinder 1,
Your high rpm in neutral, and low rpm in gear sounds like a vacume leak,The turn signal problem I'm not sure because you didn't say if the battery is going dead or if it starts right back up.

2002 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 When Driving the Engine Dies

Put the key in the ignition and turn it on and off (3) times without starting the jeep, leaving it in the on position count the (1) flashing indicator Light, Eg: (5) flashes, Then there will be a pause, then it may flash (3) times, this is a code #53. Keep your Eye on them and write them down. If you should miss (1) Repeat as many times as needed, Info: A #55 means there are no codes!!

Starting fine, driving fine, but dies while going down the road

Next time disconnect the negative and not the positive if it ever happens again. This happened due to the PCM needing to be reset.

Check your EGR valve. This is the same problem that I have had in the past, and it's been the EGR valve everytime.
