If the backup bulbs are good then check the neutral switch as this is where the reverse switch is, its part of the neutral switch. it may have stopped working and need replacing. you will be replacing the neutral switch. if you have power out of the switch then check for power and ground at the light socket as there could be a bad wire or connection.

Yes it screws in on right side of tramission and you will need a 7/8 inch deep socket to remove it. You may be able to clean the old one once it is removed. There is a little ball thatgets dirty and may you can get by with cleaning it. Good Luck. Ed

SOURCE: Tail lights / Brake lights

i was having a similar problem with my 2000 SL. when the taillights would go, so would the cruise control. and through many bulb and fuse replacements, i finally went into a saturn dealership and they did a recall campaign on it. they did their thing and i havnt had any problems since. FREE!

SOURCE: 1998 Toyota Camry tail lights and backup lights won't work

Hello.

I have a solution for you, as I see your same issue in my shop quite a bit...There are two possibilities:

You may have a broken wire. This is a very common issue.

Open up the trunk lid, and look at the hinge on the driver side. You will see a wiring harness, in a plastic tube, attached to the arm that holds th trunk lid to the car.... Remove the tubing, and follow the wires towards the back seat area. You are probably going to find a wire that has been broken, from the many actions of opening and closing the trunklid. Splice and resolder the wire, and you should be fine.

The other issue is the tallamp failure sensor may have burned out. This too is rather common. Open the trunk lid, and pull back the inner carpeting on the driver side of the trunk. Locate a small box (it will be white or blue), on a brace. The box is closer to the quater panel sheetmetal. Remove the box, and take it apart. If it looks or smells burnt, you need a new sensor.

1998 dodge dakota left tail light wont work

There may be corrosion on the terminals that make contact with the bulb. Some times just scraping the terminals will solve the problem.
Or the spring is not pushing the terminals close enough to the bulb.
Worth a try. Best of luck.I hope you already fixed it.

Both tail lights are out brake and turn bulbs work. My fuses and switch is good but i have no juice to my tail lights

Check if your vehicle uses a backup/reverse/safety switch in the transmittion, this is the most common problem after fuses in vehicles with that type of switch - Jeep Grand Cherokee owner

No tail signal hazard and stop lights

After checking for power at the fuses for these circuits, I would check for power at the multi-function switch. Everything but the parking lights is wired thru that turn signal switch.

My 99 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 has some brake light problems. The brake lights work fine during the day, but when I need to have my headlights on, my left brake light and tail light competley shut...

If you have any extra fuses, try replacing the ones for the head lights and tail lights. Make sure the fuses you replace are the same color as the ones you replace them with, that way the voltages are the same. Another issue is that a flasher could be going out.

1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport tail lights don't work. Stop lamps, turn signals, reverse lamps all work. Everything seems to work except the tail lights.

if the bulbs are good, the only thing left is the headlight switch, or wires. black/yellow wires from the switch all the way back to bulbs. ck power to the bulbs first. if no power, then ck power at switch.

Right brake light out; tail light works fine

most rear tail lights and turn/stop lights are the same dual filiment bulb. it is possible for your tail light to work and your brake light not to and still have a bad bulb. I would check the bulb first, your brake light works on the left yes? this would mean that the fuse is fine

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Left Tail/Stop Light Inop.

You need to check for power and ground. If you dont have a volt meter you can get a good cheap one from radio shack. If there is no power recheck with a known good ground. All the lights on that side share a common ground. Check the sockets for signs of burning or corrosion. There is a plug in the left rear quater panell. If you have no power check the corrisponding wire at that connector. The wires splice togeter just before the connector. So if the other brake/tail light is working you know the problem is after that. Hope this helps. Im sure you'll find the problem.
