This is normally the alarm switch which is attached to the key barrel on the door. You will have to remove the door trim to get at it.
When the alarm is activated, there is an Anti-Theft device (Starter Kill Relay) which prevents anyone from starting the engine using the key (about 5 minutes). If you place the key in the ignition and turn the key to the "RUN" position, wait 5 minutes (approx), the engine should then be able to start. If not, the problem may be the ETACS (Electronic Time & Alarm Control System) module. If it does start, the problem may simply be that the battery in the keyless remote is weak/dead, or the remote needs to be programmed again for that vehicle. Only the remote can 'DEACTIVATE' the alarm. in that case the Best solution, take/tow the vehicle into a ford Service Center (dealership), pay the diagnostic fee. They will tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.). even if u manage to start ur car... i wud recommend this since u stated the car was tried on to be stolen... its always good to ensure no more damages are done to ur car coz of that unfortunate event.....
before taking ur car to the dealer ... try this one last thing....
Pull the battery cables, hold them together for 3-5 minutes, this resets the cpu in the car. That should fix it.
jumping the batteries or disconnecting the batteries most of the times rectifies the issue.....
if u felt i ve spent my time to help u.... kindly rate my service.,...
have a nice day and good luck

Could be the ignition switch was damaged in failed attempt to possibly steal the car. U might just have to replace that switch.

hello,it appears that they 'hot wired it ' from the back of the ignition barrel,so if the ignition is not coming on,then you need to have a close look at the wiring in that area, repair or replace anything that is not right there, afterwards, check that you have fuel going to the engine, from the tank.

I have a 2006 Saturn Ion and the Ignition Key is stuck in the ON position and the Engine will not STOP! My garage said to pop the hood and unplug the Fuel Pump fuse first, then remove the Positive Lead...

First try to spay a liberal amount of PB Blaster into the switch around the key to free up jammed tumblers in order to release the ignition switch and allow the key to be removed. ANY ATTEMPT TO JURY RIG THE WIRING WILL RESULT IN TRIGGERING THE ANTI-THEFT FUNCTION OF THE ECU AND DISABLE THE VEHICLE. Simply disconnect the ground cable from the battery to shut off all power to the vehicle.

Went to start my 2001 Saturn LS and nothing happened. Battery is good. What could be the problem?

Saturns have a huge problem with the grease in the ignition switch. The never issued a recall though. The grease gets so thick and hard when it is cold, that the electrical contacts do not move with the key, and therefore either a: do not connect the starter wire, or b: the antitheft system does not get the "ok" signal and it thinks you are stealing your own car, and disables the starter and fuel pump. If I were the owner of your car, replacing the ignition switch is what I would do next.

1990 chevy suburban. The key was turned to auxillary and stuck

hopefully that does not have tilt steering which makes the job somewhat more difficult. the same thing happened with a van i owned. there are small arms inside the steering column that move with the key to move the ignition switch.
to confirm it is broken locate the ignition switch on the column. remove it then turn the key. if the piece that normally moves that switch doesn't... than it is broken.

first unhook the battery.

about the only way to get at it is to remove the steering wheel. there are more parts behind that that have to be removed. then you will get to what is basically and end cap. remove that and slide out the parts and install the new arm(s) mine was a 2 piece.

basically you just need to bolt it back up and reinstall the key cylinder and you are good to go. hook up the battery again and you should have a working vehicle.
the tilt springs can be held together with a c clamp. it is tricky but you will see as you attempt it.

I had to run a wire to my starter so it would start. The ingetion will turn on but wont kick the starter.

Did you use the same gauge wire? May be the wire gauge is not heavy enough to carry the current to turn engine over. Does starter make a clicking noise. Check battery voltage.
