You should first you should check your break lights. Second you should take your car to a dealer but only if you have a waranty cause it will cost a lot of money. Or maybe your light is broken on your dash board.

Sometimes when this happens you have to put the vehicle in gear and drive the vehicle up to about 20 mph for 100 yards or so to get the light to go out. I have had the same problem and I just had to get the SUV up to speed and the light went out. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for using FixYa!

The Kia Sorento has an automatic transfer case, meaning the front wheel hubs will lock automatically when 4x4 mode is engaged from the cockpit.

This points towards the front wheel hubs being stuck, or a sensor specifically for the hub is damaged (maybe due to wear or failure).

Have this checked out by a specialized mechanic in servicing automatic locking hubs (I would recommend a visit to a more reliable manufacturer, nissan or mitsubishi, based on the consumer reviews out on the net...)

See how this works out, and hope this helps.

The electronic module (located behind the glove compartment) controls the operation of the transfer case in response to inputs from the electric shift motor, 4x4 mode switch, CPP switch, BPP switch, DTR sensor, throttle position output from the PCM, front and rear OSS sensors, and the VSS. 2005 kia serento will be driving and it stalls

Hello

The engine and the automatic transmission in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems.

Front end will not lock in in 4x4 transfer case is in & dash lite shows 4x4 but front wheels don;t lock in

Ok, this is probably going to sound greek if you have no automotive experiance, so here goes:

There are 2 possibilities I can think of at the moment depending on your 4wd system, however there are several things that can cause this

If you have a Push button 4wd (you push a button or turn a knob) the system engages using actuators or sylinoids meening you turn the 4wd on, the switch sends power to the selector option (high and low) and the 4wd light on the dash. the selector determines where the actuator/silenoid engages (either high or low) in the transfer case. However the actuator or silenoid can be faulty and yet the system will say 4wd is on because the switches still sending power to the 4x4 light

The next setup is the manual linkage set up, and given the year of your kia I doubt you have this setup However I am going to go through it anyway.

With a maual linkage setup you engage the trasfer case maualy using the 4wd shifter. Ironically on newer manual shift 4wd systems the dash light is still triggered electrically by location of the shifter not what is going on in the transfer case (Ah a flaw in the design) So if you linkage is loose/bent/damaged or somehow disconnected your 4wd wont engage but the light will still show that it is! Hope this helps

2004 Sport Trac stuck 4x4 low

Start the vehicle put the 4x4 switch to the position the light on the dash states it is in. then put it in nuetral, hold your foot on the brake switch the 4x4 switch back to 2wd wait a few seconds and the light on the dash should switch back to 2wd. and you should be back in 2wd
