Probably 2 to 3 cans. It won't accept more than it needs. Just get as much as you can in it.

On my 2004 gmc sierra 1500 the compressor cycles on and off. i tried to add more freon but it would not take the freon so i changed the low pressure switch but still doing the same thing. could the orfice...

When the compressor kicks on, is the air from the vents blowing cold? If the air isn't blowing cold, then your problem could be that you may have water in the system. I had a '93 Chevy Z71 that wouldn't blow cold and thats what my problem was. System needs to be evacuated and refilled. Good luck bro.

Need to put freon in ac not sure which valve is the low side one. The one standing up right or the one laying sideways. it is a 1998 gmc 3/4ton sierra pickup 350 auto trans

It is the LARGER hose, and the actual fitting is smaller-your fill hose that comes with your refill kit will only fit the suction (low side) port, so you can't do it incorrectly.

When at a stop light my 2001 gmc 2500hd A/C starts blowing warm

Your freon level is low and needs to be recharged. To have this done properly, a total evacuation of the A/C system should occur so that the seals can be replaced. The seals are leaking and that is where your freon is going. Once the seals are replaced, the system is then recharged with the proper amount of freon. Hope this helps.

When i turn on my air conditioner in my 1999 durango it blows out hot air. can i put in antifreeze myself or do i need to take to the dealership?

Antifreeze is only for the radiator, does not affect the air conditioner, make sure you have the setting on cold, if it is still hot than take it to your local air conditioner re gas station, most auto electricians do it, dealerships usually send them out which you end up paying extra for!!! You just need a re gas in your air conditioner.

Our air conditioner wont get cold put freon in and it got cold for a few hours and we could smell the oil in the cab he thinks it maybe the evaporator coil but doesnt know where it is

Its in the dash, behind glove box area. you must take the dash out, so you better be sure thats where the leak is. This is a job for a pro, not (backyard Bob) You will need to replace the drier and orifice tube also.

On and off cooling from a/c can anybody help

You are low on freon. You may have a small leak in system. Go to auto parts store and by a refill with seal in it. It comes with gage attacked that tells you when system is full. This should solve your problem unless compressor is failing. But this sounds like low freon.

Ac is blowing warm air in my 2005 sierra 2500hd duramax. Any idea

Your system has R-134 Freon in it. the 134 is made up of smaller molecules than the old R-12. The R -134 permeates through the rubber parts of the system. If the system gets too low on Freon, the compressor will stop coming on.(low pressure cut out switch). Have the system serviced with an A.C. machine that can vacuum, measure the amount of Freon in the system, and add the right amount. The machine can also inject die. Later the die will show up under a black light. This will show any leaks you may have.
