Ok the fuel pump is working but is fuel getting to the engine, I would suggest checking with a repair manual to see if where the fuel pressure regulator is located on this vehicle to make sure you are getting fuel flow. Also On some vehicles that fires on a coil pack the crankposition sensor along with the cam sensor sends the information to the engines ecm it then in turns fires the coil pack,. I would suggest getting a scan tool and look for the trouble codes if there are a lot of different codes appearing it might be the ecm. You would need to get a good repair manual to refer to your engine size to see how the electrical works. Hope this helps.

My 97 intrepid will start up, but putter out within seconds

Map Sensor or Crank Sensor. If you have a code reader the map sensor should throw a code, the crank sensor most often will not. Both will cause the car to start, idle to around 1,000 R's and then die.

you should have engine light on and engine codes
if its the cam or crank sensors, shouldn't be the starter i would start with the ingition switch.

Vehicle stalls sometimes

could be either the cam sensor or crank sensor , but I would check the crank sensor first , this sensor will not cause a check engine light either

I have a 98 dodge intrepid with a 2.7. My car would run fine at times and then all of a sudden start to miss badly and the valves would rattle. The mechanic changed the cam shaft sensor and now it runs very well.

check the asd relay swap it with another like it. also check fuses and old car alarm if it had one.the cam and crank sensor will not affect fuel pressure. the cam sensor should not stop this car from starting. but the crank sensor will. good luck.
