Question about 1991 Buick LeSabre

2 Answers

My 1991 Buick Park Avenue Ultra has a climate control with 14 buttons. The A/C only works when the 'Auto' button is depressed (and the pilot lite is on). When the 'Econ' button is lit, the A/C is turned off and the system blows hot air. My question is: what will make the system work only in 'Econ' mode? Or more specifically, will low refrigerant cause the low pressure sensor on the compressor to prevent the A/C from operating? If so, will adding a bottle of refrigerant fix the problem or is a full recharge necessary?

Perhaps I didn't state my question correctly. The compressor has a low pressure sensor for the refrigerant. If the sensor senses that the refrigerant pressure is too low, it is my understanding that it will shut the compressor off to prevent damage to the system. If my assumptions are incorrect, please let me know. However, if they are not incorrect: If the pressure is low enough for the sensor to shut down the compressor, can the pressure be increased sufficiently by the addition of 1 or 2 cans of refrigerant, or is a full evac and recharge going to be required?

Doesn't answer exactly my question, but enough to be quite helpful, especially with the provided link. Thanks, Kevin.

Yes you are correct, Once you are sure that the system can hold a vacuum for an hour you may proceed to filling the system with Freon

No, a low sensore will not cause a low pressure on the ACD, This is not even part of the AC. The collent goes into a radiator in the frount of the car. The refridgrent goes into the compressor of the car so there are two diffrent things. Having this AC serviced will shore up this issue and you be glad you did.

A./C. doesn't work even with a jumper wire on the low pressure sw

Howdy,
If your AC system is low on Freon, the system goes into a no run mode. If you disconnect your battery for a few minuets the computer resets itself. Then the Freon level can be checked by a friendly shop. Might find it low. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No air conditioning, flashing climate light

You should make sure you have proper charge for sure.has your battery gone dead lately? I know on some of them digital climate controls will act exactly like this and have to be reset or go through a setup sequence.

this system has self testing capabilities, have any GM dealer test it for codes and proper function, If I had to guess I would say the climate control head is defective.
