Check your power steering fluid level, it seems that it is low on fluid. If it is low then check for leaks. The power steering works off of a serpentine belt, during idle the belt doesn't spin that fast thus making the power steering pump not work as much. During driving speed the belt spins fast making the pump work more efficient but do keep in mind there isn't a lot of strain on the steering when moving.

Failed mot on emissions slightly too high have changed the sparke plugs and air filter and added red x to the fuel now seems worse exhaust now smoking when at idle clears when driving is this the red x if...

It will smoke because of the red x, dontr know how long it will take to clear. But before going for an mot, you should take the car on the motorway or such like and give it a good blast/clean out. Town and short trip driving is not good for the car, it can clogg up the exhaust, and also if you take the car for test and the engine is relatively cold then the emmissions will be bad, As i said, give a good blast down the road to clear it out, That should work.

The truck dies while I am driving

I read this in a blog and it worked for my truck. I cleaned the throttle body and the air filter. It seems to be starving for air when you are just at idle cause it would not die when I was going down the road. Only if I was pulling into park with the rpms really low. Just pull the intake off and clean the throttle body. You will see a bunch of gunk. Clean it until it turns silver again.

your probably feeling a rough idle of the engine. need a tune up?

in park the engine is not loaded down, just idling at a low rpm=rough
in drive with brake on you have put some load on motor also at low rpm=rough
in drive on the road engine is at higher rpm, = smoother

generally 4 cylinder motors idle a bit rough, especially if one spark plug is not firing right or fouled or one bad spark plug wire. tune up may fix it. if it is not stumbling real bad or stalling then you can live with it.

Could it be a cracked header, I have that problem atm. It is more obvious when parked or driving past a wall etc. It's like a fast ticking. Go-jeep says they go about 110,000 k's. J.
