Question about 2003 Buick Century

1 Answer

Buick century 2003 3.1 auto. it will balk when accellerating medium to hard and it loses power and service engijne soon light will come on flashing. I have changed the fuel filter, removed the catalytic converter and run it without and still the same. I changed coil, as a scan tool had it as a p0306 which is a plug six misfire. alos new wire and plug and while the p0306 is not coming back after the fuel filter change the hesitation still is there. It almost feel like the exhaust is loading up. I am about to remove the exhaust cross over pipe as that if it was restricted would still have acted up when cat was removed. There are no error codes any more and while the fuel filter needed to be changed it was not trhe main problem, and it did stop the misfire code. I am a front end mechanic from many years ago and I can only remember a couple times when crossover pipes colasped but that was rare. Does anyone have other suggestions before I do this reaching removal?

I have never seen a cross pipe collapse. If it did you would have a very bad leak. Don't wast your time to pull it out. They are not fun to remove.
I'd look to see fuel pressure, and mass air flow data. The 306 is thowing me a little. Start with those two things and post your findings.

My 2003 buick century custom has dashboard lights on--how to reset Service Vehicle Soon, Trak light off, Abs light?

You need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes to see what the problem is ,then diagnosed , then fixed ! Then the light's will go off ! This means taking it to a qualified repair shop .
SERVICE VEHICLE SOON
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON message in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects certain malfunctions that are not related to the emissions system. The IPC receives a class 2 message requesting illumination from the PCM.

How do you reset the service engine soon light

Put the key into the ignition and turn it to "Run." Don't start the engine. Press down slowly and fully on the gas pedal, then release it. Do this three times in five seconds. Watch for the "Service Engine Soon" light to start blinking. This indicates that the system is resetting itself. Turn the ignition to "Off" and wait one minute. Start the Century's engine. The Service Engine Soon light will flash for a moment, then turn off. If it doesn't do this, repeat the process.if all else fails...Disconnect your battery for one minute and then reconnect it again that should reset it, if the problem that you have in your car is still there then that light will come on again after whille then you gona need to run diagnostics on your car to find the problem if it will not come on again then that should take care of it.9-08-2006Let me tell you about my experience with my 1995 Buick Century. When my buick sits for a while while running, the radiator fan comes on, you know?Well, after the fan does its thing, SOMETIMES the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light comes on.THEN.....when this happens again, it may take a couple times of after the fan comes on, then....the light goes off !!!Its like it needs to go thru some sort of "CYCLE" , THEN THE LIGHT GOES OFF...Who knows though, you may have LEGITIMATE problems with your car.good luck.

Buick century 2003, service engine soon ligth is on

Hello! The SES light can be triggered by any number of things. The best way to determine what error code (DTC) is being reported, is to have the car's computer scanned. Any major auto parts retailer (Advance Auto, AutoZone, PepBoys, etc) can scan your vehicle, retrieve the error codes and the details to them, and then reset the codes as well.

Hope this helps, and good luck. Thanks for using FixYa!
