Look on the underside of your hood. Occasionally one will be on the fan shroud.

I need to replace my alternator and do not see how to loosen and then retension the belt
1fae12d.jpg You insert a 3/8" breaker bar into the square hole on the tensioner and rotate to loosen the surpentine belt. If you don't have enough clearance for a breaker bar you can rent a surpintine belt tool at one of the major auto parts stores.

Do you have the belt diagram for a 1986 454 chevrolet engine in a winnebago class a motor home? There are (3) V-Belts and (1) Surpintine belt.
I can't find anything on a motorhome application, but here is Dayco's chart for the serpentine belt on a 84-90 Surburban with a 454 engine.

If you dont have the 4.0 (auto belt tensioner) you have to tension using the power steering pump pulley.

Surpintine belt diagram
Two places of information. One is under the hood, usually form on the engine. A small white diagram that will show the proper routing for the serptine belt.

Second. Purchase a auto repair manuel at the parts store and it will show the routing the serpetine belt. If you do not have the correct routing you will never get the belt on.
