The pressure means nothing as far as the state of charge. You need to have the system completely evacuated and recharged with the specific charge weight for that vehicle. Only then can the pressures or anything else mean anything.

A/C compressor on 95 astro van does not engage at all.

There are a few reasons for the compressor not engaging. Lets start with the most common. low ac gas.A bad clutch on the compressor.Blown fuse.
Let is start with testing for low gas. (134a freon).Locate the dryer. this is on the passenger side of engine compartment. it looks like a tall cylinder, on the top side you will see a switch. unplug switch connector and jump the two terminals in connector with a piece of wire, this is the low pressure or cycling switch. you will be completing the circuit by jumping a wire across the terminals. If the compressor turns on when connectors are jumped then you are low on gas and the system needs recharging.
If the compressor does not urn on then check all fuses, if fuses are good then the next step is to go to compressor and test for power and ground. If you have power and a good ground on the connector to compressor then compressor clutch is bad.A bad clutch will some times blown fuses, so if you replace the fuse because it was blown and it blows again then clutch is bad.
Another test that will help is when you remove the connector from the cycling low pressure switch , test the connector. one wire on the connector should have power when ac is turned on,
Hope this helps let me know what the outcome is. Good day.
I have enclosed a picture of the switch and dryer to help you locate it.If you jump the terminals

The air condition wont turn on. The windows dont work, and the spedometer doesnt work

This just happened to me yesterday. First, push the AC button to turn the AC off. Then, find the fuse pannel on the driver's side under the dash. Mine is behind the ash tray. Replace the 10 amp fuse (marked fuse #18 on my 1995 Camry manual) and the windows, spedo, tach, etc will come back on. My problem is the bearings on my AC clutch heated up a plastic piece between the AC clutch and AC compressor and the plastic piece blew up and sprayed hot plastic all around the AC compressor. The car runs, but no AC and if I push the AC button, the fuse blows again. I am planning to unbolt the compressor from the engine block, and replace the clutch assembly and pully without disconnecting the hoses. Disconnecting the hoses will vent coolant to the atmosphere and require professional equipment to clean the oil from the system, pull a vaccuum and recharge the system. The AC compressor clutch assembly is available at Advanced Auto for $98. The whole compressor is $247 but requires a lot of work to recharge. You could also take the clutch assembly or whole compressor off and just leave it off and get a shorter (40" in my case) belt to go just to the alternator.
Good Luck.

Clutch on the air conditioner compressor does not engage when I turn on the airconditioner. Looked at fuses but they seem ok. Joe

check to see if you have any power going to the compresser clutch if you dont then your gonna have to back track the wires and start testing things if you do then the electric clutch on the pump is bad its easyer and cheaper to just to replace the whole pump.

A/c quit but does have pressure in system and light on in panel. Compressor clutch not engaged, belt is turning pully.

This sounds like the compressor has failed. With AC in on position the compressor clutch should engage/disengage periodically while turning. A couple things to check before replacing this is the following.

1)Check the fuse panel to ensure there is power getting to that part of the sysem.

2)Check the wiring harness itself and make sure the connection is tight, free of dirt, debris and is in good shape.

If those two are okay, I would replace compressor and recharge the system and it should work properly.

Let me know,

A/C clutch won't engage

ur still way low in freon the compressor clutch is designed to disengage when low on pressure so as not to overheat and seize causing possible damage to engine two ways to engage clutch --one is to jump clutch and continue to fill or keep adding freon until clutch pulls in

A/C Compressor is shot

generally speaking if the a/c clutch doesn't kick in it's because of either no voltage or low refrigerant. you can waste the money and just recharge the system and replace the a/c clutch, however it's been my expeirience that often times the compressor goes bad and that money was needlessly spent. this time of year the price to fix the system is far cheaper than the begining of the spring take the vehicle to a qualified a/c tech and your problem will cease. if you have no voltage that means the a/c clutch relay is bad. make sure all relays and fuses are good. the relays are clearly marked. quick to find out is to switch the cooling fan relay with the clutch relay if the a/c kicks in you know that relay was bad. hope this helps
