SOURCE: I dropped the fuel tank to drain old gas.I put new

Turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine. You should hear the fuel pump running for 5 seconds if working. This primes the gas to the injectors when doing this. If not heard running check the oil pressure switch for the 12 volts needed to run the fuel pump starts there on that harness. When the engine starts and the oil pressure reaches the normal pressure the computer shuts off that circuit and turns on the fuel pump relay to run the pump. The relay stays on till you shut the engine off

Try replacing the fuel filter. These sometimes can be instantly clogged with no warning.

My car wont start up

First of all, the new fuel pump may be bad. disconnect line at fuel filter where it goes through filter. and see if fuel flows, or have someone to put hand flat on bottom of tank and try to start car. if fuel pump is working you will feel a vibration on tank. if it does not work, check the fuel pump fuse in fuse box before you exchange it.and or the fuel pump relay! when car is running it runs constantly, when you simply turn key to on position, it runs for about 3 seconds(until fuel pressure in line comes up. and then cycles off.

Ran out of gas than i put a quarter tank worth of gas but it still wouldnt start

Turn the key on you should hear a humming sound from the fuel pump pressurizing the fuel system. Just leave the key on for a 10 -15 seconds and then try to start the car. do not pump the gas pedal. If that does not work you may need a new fuel pump. Check the fuel pump fuse.

Shut the explorer to put in gas tried to start it, it turns over but will not start

engine could have flooded could have leaking fuel injectors or clogged air filter.hold accelerator to floor to clear flood mode see if engine try to crank if not listen for fuel pump operation when you turn on ignition switch fuel pump should turn on for few seconds.if you dont hear fuel pump could have bad fuel pump fuse or relay.now if you ran out of fuel just getting to gas station could have damaged fuel pump.if getting fuel check for spark.could have faulty crankshaft position sensor or camshaft sensor.but have vechicle code scan first before buying new parts.

Not sure if its the problem but I dont hear the fuel pump coming on when I turn the key on wont start no gas oder it is a 98 mozda protege if this is the problem where is it located on the car

Hello, I though no mechanic, have had to deal with a few fuel pump issues. I am assuming your car is not running? First thing to check, Easiest is your fuse box, There should be a fuse for your fuel pump, The fuse cover should show the location of the fuse. If the fuses internals are not broke, Then put it back. If that does not work, I would get someone to try to start the car and have someone pound on the bottom of the gas tank. That might get it to start. Either way, your fuel pump will probable need to be replaced sooner rather than later, It is a huge pain. I really hope this helps and things work out for you!

Best Wishes and Good Luck!!

Honda passport ran out of gas. now won't start. Could be gas filter?Put 5 gals of gas in tank. Will start with gas added to air flter intake, but won't stay running

It's possible that you have an air bubble in the fuel line. This blocks fuel from reaching the engine. To clear it, you will have to bleed the line at the fuel filter.

The other possibility is that the fuel pump is not working. Turn the ignition key to the on position. You should be able to hear the fuel pump humming. If not, check the fuel pump fuse, in the fusebox under the hood. If the fuse is ok, you will need to trouble-shoot the pump.

No humming from fuel pump when ignition turned and car will not start - is it possible that the fuse for the fuel pump could prevent car from starting ??

yes,,,check the fuel pump fuse if its bad replace it,if not check fuel pressure, turn key on and hit shradder valve see if gas comes out with alot of pressure, becarefull not to get hit by the gas,,if not you might have a bad fuel pump,,and you dont have to have a blown fuel pump fuse to have a bad pump.,,,,

Ran out of gas car wont start

first make sure theirs enough gas in the car now, about 5 gallons. next open the gas door, then the cap. next put your ear to the open fule filler neck. then have someone put the key in the "on" position so teh dash lights up and all, but dont start. this should trigger the pump to start, if you can hear a buzz then the pumps on and working, if not the pump is dead.if this is the case just be sure by checking the fuses to confirm. only way to get to the pump is drop the tank. also dropping the rear exhaust helps too.
