I have a 1996 Olds 88 and my wife complained that it would not start sometimes. We took it to the shop and they could never replicate the problem (typical). It has been progressively worse. When you turn the ignition, everything happens such as lights, warning lights, power on, AC, radio, but when you go to crank the starter, nothing happens. No noise, no sound, just nothing. The lights do not dim and the battery is fine (so is the starter). I figured out that it is the key code in the specific keys assigned to the car. I figured I would bypass it (as if I were changing out the ignition switch, but when I put the two white wires together, I get nothing. This really sucks because I cannot even start the car now. I will keep working on it and get back if I find something, but if anyone knows how to disable the "security" feature with the coded keys, you would solve my problem.
to correctly solve your problem you need to regretfully take the vehicle to dealership and have the computer re-promed for aftermarket ignition, ignition security not only cut off coil ignition but also fuel consumption
