Question about 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1998 jeep grand cherokee: not starting and

1998 jeep grand cherokee: engine turns over, but will not start.

Overhead console shows dashes for any information related to trip odometer, but the compass and temp are still working.

I also checked the fuses (I believe the correct ones) in the fuse box on the passenger side. They appear to be ok

Any ideas on what is wrong and/or advice?

The 1st thing u do is have the system tested for trouble codes that will explain this no start, most common cause is ignition loss of spark, but check the codes.

You can try doing a re-calibration of the cluster. To do that.....
Begin the test with the ignition switch in the OFF position. 2. Depress the odometer/trip odometer switch button. 3. While still holding the odometer/trip odometer switch button depressed, turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but do not start the engine. 4. Release the odometer/trip odometer switch button. 5. The instrument cluster will simultaneously begin to illuminate all of the operational segments in the VFD units, and perform a bulb check of each operational LED indicator. The VFD segments and LED indicators remain illuminated as each gauge needle is swept to several calibration points and back. If a VFD segment or an LED indicator fails to illuminate, or if a gauge needle fails to sweep through the calibration points and back during this test, the instrument cluster must be replaced. 6. The actuator test is now completed. The instrument cluster will automatically exit the self-diagnostic mode and return to normal operation at the completion of the test.

I have replaced....several times.... the 15amp fuse for my turn signal and overhead console read out and they continue to blow. All other lights continue to work, even the flashers, head lamps, and break...

When a fuse blows you have 2 choices

Replace it once or just go to the wiring
diagrams & start diagnosing & testing,
until you find the cause of the electrical
system problem causing the high current

You need to know what is on that fused circuit

Unplug the overhead console. If the problem
goes away, you know the console needs to
be checked out. Or you work on the signal
problem WITH WIRING DIAGRAMS

You wouldn't go on a road trip without
a map,if you never been there before !!

Go to this site for what you need;

If by chance your check engine light does not light up on your dash, when you turn your ignition on, then your ecu is in need of repair.

I have a 2002 grand jeep cherokee and when i start my car my engine starts shaking and makes the whole car shake

do a self test on your Jeep's computer by turning the ignition key off-on,off-on,off-on ( on is when the dash lights are on, off is one click back). The codes will either flash out on your check engine light in pairs, 5-5 is the end of the test. or if you have a digital odometer the codes will display there. Report back with the codes to help identify any problems.

1995 Jeep grand cherokee limited, 5.2, all time 4x4. I have discovered two 6 pronged connectors under the steering column coming from the same harness, they will connect to each other and the wire colors...

I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD. I removed the dash to replace the blend door in the HVAC assembly. I got the blend door replaced and when I put it back together the overhead console and the center electronic information center does not work. I have two black connectors I could not remember where they hooked up at and believe this is the reason why the overhead console and electronic information console are not working. Attached are the 2 connectors. I need to know where they connect to under, around, or behind the dash board. E-mail all responses to royaj0131@yahoo.com_1814.jpg_1815.jpg

We have just service our 1998 Jeep Cherokee Larano as per the service schedual I cant get rid of the service now off the dash, how can I remove this & reset for the next service

If it has a service indicator light in the middle of the dash then try this;

1. Turn the ignition to the run position but do not start the engine.

2. Press the "Set" button until "0 Miles To Service" is displayed.

3. Then hold the button just below the "Set" button down until "3000" is displayed.

On some applications you might also have to hold the "Set" button down.

If you have an overhead console computer try this;

1. Turn the ignition to the run position but do not start the engine.

2. Press the "Step" button until you see Zero Miles To Service displayed.

3. Then press and hold "RESET" until the display resets.

Information center not working on 1997 jeep grand cherokee

The information center located on the overhead console gathers information from several sources. If some of those sources are not providing info then the display won't show it. When you say it is not working you need to see first if it is lit or not, or is it that some data (not all) is not showing?
