Question about 2002 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

2002 Camry RPM does not go up after battery change and test drive

I changed the battery and drove it for two days (50 miles); but the RPM does not go up and the ECM is not reset to original value; now the engine still dies when I do not step on the gas pedal.

Electrical problem

You cars ecu lost all memory (idle setting, ect) when it lost power. (battery removed). It reverted to its initial programming for idle and your idle air control valve is dirty and sticking so the ecu can't adjust it,. Alot of times they will come back on their own and stick at a ok idle setting but a good throttle body and IAC cleaning is in order.
If you still have trouble after a good cleaning you will need to replace the IAC valve.

Code P0401 1998 Toyota Camry

I'm assuming that it is a four cyl.The p0401 code is for insufficient egr flow. Most of the time it is the egr vsv valve (vsv means vacuum switching valve)which is what controls the vacuum to the egr valve to open it.It is kind of hard to get to as it is on the block under the head on the back side.If you follow the hose from the egr valve it goes to the vsv.I have also seen mice eat holes in the vacuum line which would also give you problems.I hope this help and let me know if you have anymore questions
