2003 Grand Cherokee Laredo turns off when put on reverse.

I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee Laredo that when I put it on reverse turns off. I replace the spark plugs and the crank shaft sensor, but keeps on doing the same thing. I wonder if anyone can help me out with this problem?

Thanks,
Saul Sanchez

How to replace a fuel pump on a 2003 grand cherokee laredo

Easiest to do if the tank is mostly empty (fuel is very heavy) If full, use a floor jack with a piece of plywood to distribute the weight (empty out before re-installing) You need to disconnect the fuel fill and vent lines, remove the straps then remove all smaller lines and electric.
Once the tank is down, the collar unscrews and the assembly lifts out. (careful on re-install that you don't damage the arm on the fuel gauge float.)
Reverse procedure to re-install. Never run any pump without fuel not even for a minute!
Good luck

Noisy shifting

I'm wondering if what you are hearing is the driveshaft universal joints. If they are worn they will 'clunk' every time you put the vehicle in gear. Block all wheels to check, put vehicle in neutral, NOT running, crawl under and move the driveshaft back and forth while watching the front then rear u-joint. It should be obvious if there is 'slop' or 'play' in them, which would indicate they need to be replaced.

I have had this problem a few times on my 2003 Grand Cherokee. After the guages go crazy then the thing will not start. First two times I replaced the battery and it fixed the problem for a short time. The real problem was corrosion on the battery cable(positive/red cable) I took some Coke and a wire brush and cleaned the cable, ends and battery terminal. This fixed the issue.
