If it is for the 2.8 v6
takes about 3 hours, you have to remove the front bumper

for the 1.8 turbo it is easier takes about 1.0 hrs

My alternater light has come on my vw passat is it the belt or the alternater itself?help

If the alternater light has come on in the car that means that the alternater is bad and you need to replace. You can also have it checked at your local auto parts store if you would like.

Good luck

Water pump and resevoir 2002 vw passat VW wants to charge me 1,300!!!!!! to repair! please help, I am in Savanah stranded!!!!!

I know there is Carquest down there somewhere. Get a hold of them, and price these parts through their WORLDPAC division: they can get your parts for 1/3 to 1/2 off dealer price and you'll be getting OEM parts. Call some local garages(check Yahoo! local and you'll find some good garages that won't burn you), and tell them you have the parts and your on a limited budget.

There are still good and honest people out there; and they know everyone is having it hard.

They need the business like everyone else. Get your parts prices, and then call the garages. $1200.00 is an insane price, and you can do much beter.

2003 passat issues

Well, your local garage is correct. Most cars now a days have computers for everything. That is one computer that runs those things. But before you go into replacing an expensive motor, go through and get a wiring diagram from your local parts store, and then see where the wiring all have in common, this may only be the computer, but may be a fuse of some sort. hope that helps.

#4 coil needs replacing

here is what i remember ... there was a class action law suit against VW about the high failure rate of the coils especially for the 4 cyl cars with turbo ... VW lost and agreed to install heat shields around the coils ... not sure what years are involved but you might check with a VW dealer to see if you come under that agreement .. as i recall VW charged a fortune for the replacement coils and labor.. a few years ago you could expect a second coil to go bad and even a third or all eventually .. VW would only change one coil at at time when in warranty .... the replacement coil did not appear to be an improved version .. .. it looks like VW is obligated to install the heat shields on models included in the suit ..

I need to know where is the dip stick to check the transmission fluid on a 2003 vw passat

There is no automatic transmission dip stick on your car. There is a long procedure to check and fill and you will need special fluid from VW. Better left to the dealer. If you want the procedure let me know.
