Question about 2001 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

The fuse that controls the running board lights, power windows and window shield wipers keeps blowing. I believe it might have something to do with the cruise control that is not working. I am trying to find out how I can disconnect the cruise control to see if this is the problem. If I can get the fuse to last long enough, then I can take it to the shop to be repaired.

Hey Jb,
Does this situation prevent the vehicle being driven??.. Here is a diagram of the fuse box,,, try a slightly larger fuse (replace a 15 with a 20 - NO MORE than 5 AMPS up!!)
This is a link to a diagram of the fuse panels...

SOURCE: Wind shield wiper blowing fuses

You have a short circuit to ground when the switch for the wipers is turned on. It does absolutely no good to keep replacing the fuse until the short circuit has been located and repaired. I guess you are just starting to figure this out five fuses later.

The lesson here is that fuses do not cause electrical circuit failures. Electrical circuit failures cause blown fuses. There are many people that do not understand this.

If the fuse remains intact until you turn the switch on, you will find the problem between the wiper (combination) switch and the wiper motor assembly or the wiper motor itself.

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. Any applicable trouble codes? The wiring if for power windows. Usually when multiple issues, I pick one component, look up wiring diagram, Check fuses plus use a test light and check voltage on fuse circuits. In this example, I'd pull the accessory delay relay, use proper jumper wire between terminal 30 and 87 to see if power windows will work? Terminal 30 and 87 is load side of relay. If the windows work the problem should be on control side of that relay, the control side terminals 85 and 86, that side has to have voltage and ground. I believe ford calls its bcm a gem module. You can see those three fuses in diagram, hot all the time.
I did look at cruise control, my wiring diagram didn't show the gem module having anything to do with cruise control. You may have more than one problem? The upper paragraph is just how I diagnose. If you can't read diagram, let us know, and I'll try something else.

01 FORD F150 STYLESIDE CREW WINDOWS AND WIPERS WILL NOT WORK. BLOWING FUSES

I would check for traces of water that have leaked into the inside fuse panel. You can sometime see rust marks on the metal parts of the dash around the fuse panel. There is a module on the back of the fuse panel and wire connectors that you can remove and inspect for water. If you find water in the fuse panel...the module and fuse will need to be replaced. If no water is found...the circuit that keeps blowing the fuse will need to be traced for a short. I could not find any common circuits for the wipers, power windows or lights.

I think that is the same fuse for the cigarette lighter. See if there is any coins stuck in it or if you have something plugged in that is shorted out. Rember to check all lighters and unplug them all.
