I ended up replacing the trans filter, and whatever fluid was in the pan. Also the engine light had just come on reporting a problem with the TPS, so I replaced that. It could have been a clogged filter or a bad TPS causing the problems, but I haven't had any problems with it since.

It could be a shift solenoid in the trans but most likely the transmission has failed or is on its way out.

Shifting

I recommend you replace the vehicle speed sensor. The part costs only $20, and is easy to do it yourself. This may not solve the problem, but it would cost much more to fully diagnose the problem.

Takes time shifting, and won't shift into high gear unless you gas on it.

May check fluid level and if low would more than likely indicate a leak. could also be a sensor that controls the shifting. does check engine light come on and if so,this could indicate a bad sensor.

My 2001 F150 won't shift into park.... It will shift into every other gear but park. Unless I go under the truck and manually turn the linkage back into park. Any ideas of what the problem may be?

Gday mate, geoff here, now on your shifter if column shift there is an adjustment where it goes down the box from the steering column under the hood and if stick shift should be just under the console, alternitiveley the rubber grommets on the linkage are worn and need replacement, some fuel hose will surfice here if the grommets are unavailable at the parts counter, hope this helped, geoff.

2000 Ford Focus. Transmission won't upshift unless I let up on the gas pedal. It will shift if I'm accelerating easy, but under a heavier load it won't. - Catalytic Converter isn't blocked...

it sound like it could be a vacuum problem. I have experienced this on cars i have worked on it usually turns out to be a vacuum problem 90 percent of the time.

It won't shift 1-2 or 2-3 or both unless you let off? If it is just 1-2 it might be a band adjustment, but I'll bet you have a plugged governor solenoid screen also.
