Hi I am Vortash the Rat a tat tat sound is probably the solenoid on the starter trying to kick in ,, now either the battery is dead or not enough power to turn it over the starter has jammed ( if your pick up is a manual gearbox try rocking the car in gear to free it ) or if an automatic a socket spanner on the crankshaft nut , car in neutral and turn it by hand see if you can hear the starter motor turning also or if the engine is jammed ... )
Bad Battery will also cause this as will poor charging from alternator and the battery runs low of juice .
A more drastic and serious reason this can happen is a cambelt failure piston is on the valves so engine will not turn making the solenoid cut in and out as it trys to turn the engine . hope for your sake it isn't that ?. finally if all that fails remove starter refurbish clean and or replace ..,. regards Vortash

The fast click is a classic sound of not enough power.

Either the battery is low or dying, or the starter is wearing out and trying to pull more power than the battery can supply.

Once you get it started, jump-started, or whatever, take it to your mechanic to test the battery 1st, alternator 2nd, and if necessary, starter 3rd, in order of cost.

Can a faulty ac compressor cause the engine to lock up and the belt to break. the engine runs fine but the ac compressor pulley is locked causing the pulley to be very hot. also causes the belt to hea

yeah, because the one belt runs everything now. Used to have two belts and now it's a serpentine and ribbed to make it fit right.. If you think need to find out just ask a repairman who works on them.

Car was running fine. when I parked it it made a rat tat tat noise. thought it was oil. added oil and ran smoother but still making noise. coming from pulley area. We checked the pullies and they seemed to...

sounds like could be alternator bearings, and is cheaper to replace unit than try to repair, to try to check with the engine running ,place the tip of a LONG screw driver carefully on the alternater as near to the belt as you safely can and place the handle to your ear , this works like a stethascope and you will here metal grinding sound if bearings are wearing , you will know if the sound is right by comparing with another vehicle keep me posted if you wish , PLEASE BE VERY CARE FULL , DO NOT LET THE SCREWDRIVER SLIP INTO THE DRIVE BELT

Noise in the dash behind the radio, rat tat tat tat

That is the "Air Temperature Actuator".... About a $30 item at the junk yard. LOTS of Chevy models use this unit. So, do not pay more for the 'special' unit.. There is not a 'special order' unit... Now, getting to it is another problem.... Be nice, and if you cannot find a screw holding trim in place, it pulls off.... Be gentle..... Good luck...

My new toyota yaris dashboard is rattling. help!!!!

This is some work that needs your first hand observations.
You must take the car to a difficult rrough road to simulate the noise/rattle , identily if within the dash or if the vibration is a transfer from the steering section or the suspension.
Make someone drive while you observe, identily and find the rattle point to tighten or replace the part.

Driver's seat will go up and down but not forward or back. It makes a rat-a-tat-tat sound.

the drive "gear" or coupling is stripped - several motors under the seat - seat will have to pulled out for repair - hand can be put under seat to locate motor when button is pushed

Won't start

What rat tat tat? If you mean the clicking sound, that means that the battery connection is probably corroded or the cable is bad. Clean it up with a tool. Any auto parts store ... about $3. If it is a whine, the starter is bad. If there is a solid click and no turnover, it might be the solenoid relay...but I doubt it. How to get an idea: turn on the headlights and hit the key...if the lights dim significantly, your battery might be bad. If not, check for corrosion or that solenoid. Find out why that light is on!
