2002 saturn L200 2.2L thermostat location

Facing the engine, It's on the back right , under the radiator hose. Look for where the hose is clamped to the engine, once you remove the hose, it's under the round tube that the hose was clamped to. Two bolts off, and there it is. Make darn sure that the spring side of the thermostat faces down ,when you put the new one in. Also make sure the engine is full of coolant before you put the new thermostat on, too.

Do I need to replace head bolts on my 2003 Saturn l200

Head bolts are typically a Torque Angle to Yield specification, an example 100NM plus 75 to 100 Degrees of angle. You should be able to reuse the bolts, assuming that they have not been reused before. The bolts are plastically deformed when they go into yield, typically you can reuse them 1 to 2 more times. It is stated in the service manual to replace the bolts because it is never known how many times in the past they may have been retightened. So if you have a good history of the vehicle, and know that the head has not been removed, your pretty safe to reuse.

I have a knock coming from the top left in the engine of my 2002 saturn L200. Is it a bad lifter or what?

The consensus is you ran the engine out of oil, and now you are facing the consequences. It might just be low, if so keep an eye on it, top it up of course.

Instructions on removing an oil pan to replace gasket on a 1995 saturn SL1

  1. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it safely using jackstands. Remove the plug and drain the engine oil from the pan and crankcase.
  2. Disconnect the fasteners from the exhaust manifold flange and the pipe rear flange, then remove the front exhaust pipe and gaskets from the vehicle.
  3. Remove the engine stiffening bracket and the flywheel cover.
  4. Remove the right wheel and splash shield, then loosen the 4 front motor mount bolts. Back the bolts out about 1 / 2 in. (12mm).
  5. Remove all the oil pan bolts. For vehicles with a manual transaxle, an 8mm flex socket may be used to access the rear oil pan bolts located next to the flywheel.
  6. Using SA9123E, or an equivalent RTV cutter tool, separate the oil pan from the engine. Drive the tool around the pan to shear the RTV seam, then tap the pan sideways with a rubber mallet to loosen.
  7. Pry the engine mount away from the engine as necessary and remove the oil pan. Be careful not to damage or score component surfaces when prying.

To install:
  1. Carefully clean the gasket mating surfaces with a scraper and solvent.
  2. Apply a 0.16 in. (4mm) bead of RTV sealer to the pan flange. Make sure the RTV is applied to the inner side of the flange from the bolt holes as shown.
  3. Install the oil pan within 3 minutes of RTV application and tighten the bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  4. Tighten the front mount bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  5. Install the right splash shield and wheel.
  6. Install the engine stiffening bracket and the flywheel cover.
  7. Install the exhaust pipe. Tighten the pipe to manifold nuts in a crosswise pattern to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm) and the pipe to converter bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  8. Remove the jackstands and carefully lower the vehicle, then fill the engine crankcase with clean engine oil immediately in order to prevent an attempt to start the engine without oil.
  9. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Follow your top radiator hose to a little housing on top of engine, under that metal housing you'll find your thermostat

Where is the oil drain plug in my 2002 chevy malibu

It'll be easier if you jack up the front of the car, but there are only 2 options for Chevy drain pans (depending on the engine you have). It is either smack bang in the middle of the engine block at the center (will be a small bolt head seemingly sticking out of nowhere on the drain pan wall, the bolt head will be facing the back of the car).

Or the other arrangement will have the bolt head near the front passenger wheel in line with the axel (it is pointing out towards the side of the car, horizontally). Look for an aluminum oil pan with the bolt head sticking through it.

Oil change on Saturn L-Series, how to?

same as any car.. climb underneath.. you'll see a pan with a bolt either on the side or the corner, unskrew that and the oil drains, then you unscrew the oil filter( cylindrical) it will be either right behind the oil pan(thing thats draining oil or on the side of your block) dip your finger in oil and coat gasket around new oil filter, screw it in where the old filter was ****DONT FORGET TO PUT THE DRAINAGE PLUG(the bolt you unscrewed) BACK IN**** then add 5 quarts drive!!
