Question about Kia Sportage

1 Answer

When the weather is hot and I drive for about 3 hours (I am on a mail route so there is alot of idle time and I climb alot of hills) my Kia starts to lose power but does not die. After I stop and turn it off for 5 minutes its as if something resets and I can drive another few miles before it happens again. My engine guage does not register hot.

Switch to premium to see if that is a temp fix. Then run a full strength fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank.

What is wrong with my car when it jerks in drive

jerks when?

moving the shift lever. with hand?

moving car. in gear, name the gear, drive, L or reverse?

jerks from, 1 to 2nd gear, 2nd to 3? or ? (or when IT down shifts)

pretend we are blind (we are) and cant drive car,(hopeless) and

tell us exactly what works and dont work driving.

hot /cold engine, fast /slow/ accelerating/ decelerating, up hills and what gears.

if engine is hot, is your idle at 800 RPM parked, in park.

y/s

if not the idle controls are out of control and when you shift to drive

IT will jerk. this is an engine problem.

there are lots of other symptoms.

I have 2006 kia rio the catalytic converter heated,i changed but still it can't climb hill.when idle i noise in the air cleaner housing.

You have not addressed why the cat overheated. One cause is the engine running rich. If you have not fixed that then the problem will still be present. That appears to be the case due to lack of power. Describe the noise

3.0L The radiator fan will not come on. I have changed the fan, the engine temp sensor and radiator fan relay, cleaned the ground wire to top of the engine, what else is left ? i also don't understand why...

There are actually two switches in the cooling switch one is for the guage and one is for the fan. One is usually mounted near the thermostat housing and one is usually mounted in the block or in the end of the head near the thermostat housing. There is a fuse should be located in the main fuse panel. As far I know I have never seen one in line far the fan I have seen a ballist resistor hooked to the fan which is like a fuse, should be mounted near the fan itself and is white and about 3 inches long.

Is the car flashing any codes. I would look for fuel issues possibly fuel filter, injectors etc. Because these items are easier to check. Otherwise it sounds as if the timing is off on the car. If the Hydraulic tensioner is not replaced this could cause the belt to jump teeth as well. PRETTY SURE YOUR TIMING IS STILL OFF
