I have a 2006 PT Cruiser. When starting in the AM (cold), it idles around 1000 rpm.. until I touch the gas. After I let off the gas (not revving, just off idle), the idle drops to 500 rpm and the engine shudders a bit, then recovers to 750 rpm after a few seconds.
The engine check light is also on.

Would this be a throttle position sensor problem?
Could this be a faulty Idle Air Intake Motor issue?

I have an ODBII reader, but I think it's too old for this car. With the older 2004 SX2.0 you could get the code from the trip indicator after flipping the key to the first position 3 times...

If you go to advance auto they will scan the car for free. if you write the codes down and update your question it will be easier to eliminate some of the sensors.

2006 pt cruiser, we changed the thermostat, doesnt overheat all the way but in idle it rises, as long as the rmp gauge is up to about 2 it goes back down until we let of the gas. Pls help!

At idle the water pump turns slowly as compared to when the engine is running at higher rpm. I believe the water pump has lost efficiency, probably due to corrosion of the impeller. If it were mine I'd change the water pump and quite possibly switch to a different type of coolant. Never ever use tap water in a radiator, Always use distilled water in the gallon jugs. They're about 99 cents each at the grocery store. Minerals in tap water calcify and clog the small passages whereas distilled has no minerals and doesn't.

Pt cruiser transmission stick

I would go by the hot reading of the cars transmission fluid. Check while in park and idling, check as you stated on level ground. Wait until the car temperature reaches normal operating temperature then check the fluid, not once but at least two, even three times to make sure your reading is accurate. If it shows a cold reading still then add fluid until it is within the hot reading area/marks. NOTE: be aware that when it says hot meaning the fluid in the transmission is hot, not just the cars motor. So you may want to drive it around to warm it up then come back and park it on a level surface and leave it running. Wait 5 mins or so then go out and check the fluid, again it should read between the hot marks if not, add until it does. Hope this clarifies the proper way to check your transmission fluid.

Why does the oil light turn on when rpm drops below 1000

Oil light pops on at low rpm because at a low rpm, your engine is not running fast enough to maintain full pressure. this is because either you have an oil leak, or defective oil pressure switch.

I have Crysler PT Cruiser. It jump when I put the gear in drive. What part should I replace?

check the idle speed .. it probably should be around 600 rpm .. if its higher then the transmission will jump ... that is probably controlled by an idle speed sensor ..

2006 PT cruiser dies intermittently---batery light dies no wiper

Sounds as if the alternator is not charging the battery. Check the alternator for voltage it should put out around 13 volts at idle and normal operation. If it charges then the battery is defective. A good place to start is clean the battery cables to remove any corrosion and make good contact. Many an electrical problem has been solved by cleaning battery cables.
