Trouble Starting 1994 Dodge Dakota

At random times, I have difficulty starting my Dodge Dakota.  When I turn the key to start the vehicle nothing happens.  Items that are dependent upon the battery do work - radio, electric windows, etc.
To solve this problem, I grab the shift lever and wiggle it around in the PARK position.  Magically, the vehicle will start.
Something has worn out over time in the steering column/shift lever mechanism.
Any thoughts on what the part is that has worn out?  How can I fix it?
Thanks.

The switch that prevents starting in gear is not being depressed sufficiently regular motion to Park. The switch may be loose or wearing, but can be adjusted or replaced. This will require opening of the steering column, so a Haynes or Chiltons manual is recommended.

I have a 1994 Dodge Dakota pickup. Its not starting. Turns over well but dose not seem to get fuel.

Could be fuel pump issue, pressure regulator, fuel check valve, gas filter. Check all connections for soundness and conductivity.

My dodge 3500 van cranks but will not start

Check to make sure your fuel pump is pumping by having somebody turn the key to the acc on position not starting the vehicle, this should make a buzz sound, or check fuel pressure. If you are getting fuel, make sure you have spark. Could be the fuel pump or just a coil. Make sure all ground wires are tight. This would be a good time for a tune up. When my truck did this it was just a ground wire. The second time it was the connector to the coil. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor, coil, and pcv valve. Now everything is good. 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 with 210,000 miles.

My mother ran my 1997 Dodge Dakota Sport 3.9 liter V6 without the serpentine belt. After putting new belt on it, now it won't start. It's getting fuel and the engine is turning over, just not...

Assuming nothing more than what you say here, I would first check compression on the cylinders. The serp belt alone will not cause the no start condtion you describe. If the vehicle ran before the belt was replaced, it should still run afterwards. Most likely, the "three minutes" you describe may in fact have been a few more than that, and the result could be cracked or warped heads. If you have fuel and spark, the only things you still require are air and compression. As air is most always readily available, compression is the last vestige to be checked. If the compression is bad, you have your answer. Good luck!

Wont start

Well I was originally thinking maybe the mega-fuse in the engine compartment since you have so many things not working.  Then considered the computer.  You may want to consider checking these out.
I went to MSN auto for your vehicle and under reliability, you can see that one of the engine problems is the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) and it notes that failure of the sensor will keep the vehicle from starting.  This shouldn't affect your gauges, but you might have the sensor checked out.  Hope this helps.

I have a 1996 dodge dakota pickup has trouble starting .....

Not knowing your truck, I'm not sure what Dodge calls it but there is a device that monitors the ambient temperature and sets the fuel-air ratio accordingly.
The "Idle air control" can be used for this in some makes. If this or some part of it has failed, the mix is probably not getting enriched enough to ensure reliable cold starting.

Not starting

Air/fuel/spark. check the 3, and then do a dummy test. I know , im not insulting you, but my dakota wont start if my gascap isnt screwed down all the way, it throws a sensor and it wont start. So just do all the dummy stuff you know has to be done to start it, put it in park, close all the doors, stuff like that, never know, could be something simple. if not, as above, Air/fuel/spark. need all 3 to start an engine.
