Usually 5-6 amps. average. Testing its current draw will not tell you though if the brushes are worn down. When first turned on the current draw should be larger, then subside suddenly. In fact it will not help you much on diagnoses.

What is the best solution for Possible defective low pressure fuel pickup pump inside the fuel tank.

Test the electrical circuit for the fuel pump , lab scope an amp test meter ! Find the fuel pump relay ,pull it out ! Look on bottom of the relay . Should see four sets of numbers , 30,87 an 85,86 . take a DVOM - set on DC amp's . put one lead at 30 an other 87 . This is power to fuel pump . Should see 4 - 6 amps current draw ! Videos on youtube showing this !

When my fuel get near 1/4 tank my jeep cuts off continually while driving. It starts fine and runs fine in park but wont drive for long. Especially on highways. What could be the problem?

possible fuel pump or pump relay is over heating --the fuel pump uses the gas to keep cool when at lower levels in tank it warms up pulls higher amps and shuts off --pump on its way out not putting out enough pressure -same with relay if pump starts pulling higher amps heats up relay and it opens when cooled down work normal ----other is vapor lock but ur evap usually throws a check engine light but could be a problem

My 4514 Honda has a snow blower for the winter . It keeps stalling and the fuel pump never shuts off so I guess isn't pressurizing . I pulled the fuel line at the carb & it is pumping gas ....

sounds as if there is sticky gum in the carb that is keeping the float from seating unless it is hot enough to unstick. Take the carb bowl off and examine it for gum (real old gasoline will do that.

You could have a fuel delivery problem. I would recommend to start by checking fuel pressure. Fuel injected cars are very fuel pressure sensitive. Fuel pressure is very important and must be within specifications! But if the pressure is low, it does not mean the pump is bad. A plugged fuel filter, a pinched line, and low voltage at the pump can contribute to low fuel pressure. All three must be check before replacing the pump! You can get a fuel pressure gage at a local auto parts store for cheap. Fuel pressure testing is frequently overlooked but it is one of the common causes of poor performance. The test procedure must include testing that will insure normal fuel pressure under all operating conditions. Key Factors 1. Fuel demands are low at idle. 2. Wide open throttle at high engine revs uses the most fuel. 3. Fuel pressure must be reduced when manifold vacuum is high. Vacuum pulls fuel out of the injector causing it to deliver too much fuel if the pressure remains high. Manifold vacuum is used to open the pressure regulator at a lower pressure when vacuum is high. A good way to check your fuel pump is to run an amp test on the fuel pump while it is running or while battery voltage is being applied ot it (turning the key on, cranking your vehicle or even when your engine is running. The amount of amps your fuel pump will pull will depend on how much fuel pressure your fuel pump should supply to your fuel rail. A good rule of rule of thumb for this test is as follows: 14 to 15 psi 3 to 4 amps 30 to 45 psi 4 to 7 amps 45 to 50 psi 7 to 8 amps 50 to 70 psi 8 to 12 amps

Not getting fuel to engine, fuel pump checks good ,what would cause this.it ran out of gas is there any way to prime it.

I was told if you turn your ingintion off & on, but dont try to start the car. You just want to cycle the fuel pump, you must do this @ least 10 - 20 times. Then pull your housing around the fuel injection & spray some starting fluid in there, but be careful because it can start a back fire.

  1. With the engine turned OFF , relieve the fuel pressure at the pressure regulator. Refer to the fuel relief procedure in this section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle on jackstands.
  4. Drain the fuel tank, then remove it.
  5. Using a hammer and a drift punch, drive the fuel lever sending device and pump assembly locking ring (located on top of the fuel tank) counterclockwise. Lift the assembly from the tank and remove the pump from the fuel lever sending device.
  6. Pull the pump up into the attaching hose while pulling it outward away from the bottom support. Be careful not to damage the rubber insulator and strainer during removal. After the pump assembly is clear of the bottom support, pull it out of the rubber connector.
  1. Connect the fuel pump to the hose.

Be careful that you don't fold or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit, or you'll restrict fuel flow.
  1. Install a new O-ring on the pump assembly and then position them into the fuel tank.
  2. Turn the locking ring clockwise until its tight.
  3. Install the fuel tank and connect the battery cable.
If you dont feel like dropping the tank and hassling with the hangers because they often break cut a hole in the bed of your truck over the tank where the fuel pump is but be careful not to hit the wires. dont cut the piece out completely cut it so you can pry it up to oneside
