Question about 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Heater Core? My Jeep has been fogging up inside, and recently started spewing a fine fine mist inside via the vents with the A/C on. I also noticed a leak last week where coolant was pouring out underneath, however when I went to check it out and add stop-leak if needed, it was completely full of coolant. No room to add stop -leak. I checked for failure codes (dual temp control) and got a 56 = Right Temp Door Travel Too Large. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? I took it to the garage and had the rad system pressure tested and there is not a leak anywhere there. The gauges are all fine, and the heat and A/C still operate fine! (except the fog/moisture/mist) So, I had them add a bit of stop leak to the Heater Core as the mechanic said this could be a cheap fix (they qouted me 1100 to get the job done and I just do not have it). Now, given the state it is in...what are the odds of the Stop-Leak working? How long will it take to find out? How long will it work for? Is there a cheaper simpler way to fix this issue then replace the core and take out the whole dash ? Please, any advice is appreciated.

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee has a dark mist/smoke coming out of the vents, and defroster. But, the heater works fine. What could it be?

DO NOT USE STOP LEAK!!!!!! That stuff has no brain so you cant tell it to plug only specific leaks. It will go for the easiest hole to plug which can be a water port in the cooling jacket for the cyl heads. replace the heater core. Fix it right or bypass but please please please do not use anything that will stop a leak

No in car heating, blowers working fine but it wont produce heat. Its a 51 plate grand cherokee Thanks

If it won't produce heat then you have an issue with your heater core. The heater core could be bypassed, in which case no hot coolant will get to it to produce heat inside the cabin. The heater core could be stopped up with dirt/debris, in which case the heater core can't radiate heat to produce heat in the cabin. The ducting in the dash could not be allowing the hot air to flow to the vents - therefore no heat in the cabin. I'd start with the heater core and check to see if it is bypassed. This generally happens on older vehicles because the parts can be harder to find.

Windsheild is fogging up while driving what is causing this?

Check coolant level for radiator to see if it's going down. Does it smell like anti-freeze when the fog starts coming? Feel it, does it feel slightly oily?
If so, you may have a heater core problem.(Leak) Have the cooling system pressure tested to confirm.

it sounds like coolant was also spraying the engine or something, but you need to have the codes read to know exactly whats going on.

2001 jeep cherokee- had the heater core replaced in Feb. 2008, when you turn on heater barely any air, when you use defrost a snell and the windows fog up. When you turn off car sounds like ******* comes...

Sounds to me like the heater core is leaking again. If you're smelling antifreeze and the window fogs up then you're getting coolant into the heating system. Most likely cause is leaking hose to heater core or the heater core it's self.

When i run the heat or air cond. i smell water and windshield fogs up in the middle.

Sounds like your heater core is bad. Have someone check out the heating system and possibly replace heater core.. that should take care of the fog problem also by enabling you to use the defrost... Good Luck!
