Cruise control not working when power steering out

Power steering has gone out on 2003 Mini Cooper. I was told we needed a new power steering pump and cooling fan. The car is driveable but the cruise control is also now out. Are these two interrelated somehow?

SOURCE: Power steering stiff - is it the pump ? or the steering rack?

If the wheel binds up or you encounter harder steering in one direction but not the other, it's your rack. Check for leaks, is it from the connecting hose or the rack itself. Can't find it? It's usually on the bottom rear of your engine,a tie rod on either side will attach to your steering knuckle. If your steering is stiff while wheel is centered or at maximum lock it's your pump.

Never worked on a mini in particular. Doing a quick google search and pumps (minus labour) seem to be 350-450$ depending where you go, unless there's some crazy book time i'm unaware of, 1300$ seems pretty steep.

Is there a noise when you turn? If there is, jack up the front end and remove the cap off your power steering resevoir. Slowly turn the wheel from lock to lock, while the engine is running, to bleed any air out of the system
If you replace one or the other, don't forget to do the above step.

SOURCE: Where is the power steering pump and fan located

the power steering pump is located at rear engine under the exhaust manifold and the fan is fitted under the pump, the fan is easy to replace but the pump is a bit hard if you never done before.

No fluids are consumed on any vehicle

Whinning noise when engine is off

Whinning Causes
The whining noise you hear coming from the power steering pump is one of three things. The first is more of a loud "hush" than a whine; this is the sound of fluid rushing through the bypass valve when you turn the wheel all the way to one side or the other. Sometimes the bypass valve malfunctions or doesn't open all the way, causing pressure to back up in the pump and cause your engine rpm to drop. The second and third causes result from cavitation -- vacuum pockets created behind the rotor's vane blades as a result of extremely high pump action -- or air in the lines.

I have a 2003 mini cooper R50, I have bought a replacement electro hydraulic power steering pump since the old one died. I noticed that the wiring that is connected to the power steering unit is burnt and...

You need to goto a good parts store or the Cooper dealer and simply buy the new Pigtail Connector for that particular unit. It will give you a new plug, and the wires long enough for you to splice to the old wires and be on your way.

I lost power steering today, it came back after i

I would start by checking the power steering fluid level. then check the belt to make sure it's ok. Make sure there's no leaks...
P/S pumps don't go out often ,but it may be if every thing else is ok.
Start with the simple stuff first..

Power steering fails

I had the same problem, there is a cooling fan for the power steering pump that went out and caused some damage to the pump. The intermitent problem finally got worse and I had the pump replaced read: expensive about $1000. See if they have a rebuilt pump available.

A constant whizzing

that whining noise is definately your power steering pump. the earlier models eg 2001-2003 just have noisy ones. so they say, if that noise become really excessive; its an early warning that its gonna fail. the newer pumps are much quiter, but i was quoted approx 1200+ CND for a new pump. I have a 2003 cooper, and the whining noise is loud. only once has the steering been really stiff, but i resolve that problem by restarting the vehicle. watch out tho, the power sttering could fail on you while your driving around a corner, and if you dont have both hands on the wheel, you'll go strait.
