No, nothing altered. Could the gas cap have gone bad? Is there a vent hose that I can check?

It sounds like the new gas tanks do not have a breather fitted to them.

As you remove gas from the tank it needs to be replaced with air if not it creates a vacuum and natures way of filling a vacuum it to compress the space it is in

Fill a plastic soda bottle with fairly hot water , give it a minute then pour the water out and quickly screw the top on , watch the effect , that is your gas tank

There is either a metal or rubber tube or even a vent in the filler cap to allow air in

You did something to alter that ?

If your tank is fitted with a breather tube it will be on the top of the tank and will be located where it can draw air but not water.

If you have changed the tank three times were the last two new and the tube opening was sealed for transit purposes.

Do you still have the original tank to check it against ?, was there a tube fitted to that one

I know that some filler caps are fitted with breathers which allow air in but stop fumes coming out

1996 Geo Tracker gas cap has to be exact fuel pressure?

Old post. but this is common on ALL EFI CARS.
great question and is very easy.
btw one of the best posts on the forum best of 1300.
the gas cap must have the proper vacuum breaker (ask STANT for one) if missing the cooling fuel will pull and illegal vacuuum and the gas tank will implode (crush) I have a nice photo of same car doing that.
this vacuum also stalls the fuel pump, as the vacuum builds.
this happens on cooling day not getting hotter day.
to prove this drive with the cap loose and ignore the ECU check light for EVAP failure. (pressure test fails)
loosen the cap key on, 3 times to 5 times to build pump
pressure, the pump only runs key on for 3 sec. then start it up.
the other proof of lost fuel is the test fuel test. (spray)

to google landers. i make this. post.

I have 2 questions 1st- about a year ago i had a new fuel pump installed. (delco) In the last week i have noticed a sound like a high pitch squeal. I crawled around under the van while it was running. The...

First of all $900 for a fuel pump? You got ripped! Sorry ,I just replaced one myself and fuel pump only cost me $214 with life time warenty. if you are the least bit mechanically inclined? Get a piece of plywood about 2ft-x2ft and place on floor jack under gas tank ,siphon as much gas as you can out of gas tank, mark the three lines on the passenger side of the gas tank on top(1,2,3)and dis connect,.jack upplywood to gas tank to hold weight while loosening 2 metal bands(straps) around gas tank, there are 2 bolts on each strap, lower tank to ground and slide off jack, jack up rear of vehicle to slide gas tank from under vehicle, remove the "C" clip to release fuel pump from gas tank. reverse this procedure to reinstall new one. The only problem I had was the new O ring gasket that came with new fuel pump was too stiff not allowing enough clearance to install C clip so I used the old O ring gasket and had no problems. That occasional popping could be a cv axle assuming you have all wheel drive.

    What does diagnostic code PO455

A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
    • A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
    • A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
    • Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

With a p0455, the most common repair is to:
    • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
    • Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
    • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary.

Hole in the smog line that leads across the gas tank.

You should be able to put a piece of rubber fuel line over the section with a hole, clamp both ends. If it's hard to get to, run a long piece of rubber fuel line (inside diameter big enough to fit over smog line), cut the original smog line, attach new rubber fuel line over cut section, wiggle it over the tank to other side where you can cut original line again, and attach both ends with hose clamps. Let me know how it goes, it should work, you can even go around the tank front or back, just make sure you use zip ties or something to keep the hose from hanging down.

Gas tank keeps blowing a hole in exact same spot over exhaust

Hoping the exhaust system is original equipment and undamaged, After replacing the tank a3rd time, I would ABSOLUTELY assess the condition of all exhaust hangers, and re-align exhaust pipes AWAY from that gas tank. The vehicle will best be repaired on a lift, along with some heavy bars. Maybe the closeness of the exhaust was trying to bring your unleaded to a boil. Repair this ASAP

Put in another ran good for 2 days started running poorly hard to start no power. 2nd fuel pump. So i figure another bad new fuel pump wow changed it put in a third brand new fuel pump. Still will not eve start now. I had it tuned up 2 months ago new plugs rotor, cap, etc. put in a new fuel filter made sure it is on proper checked all connections for leaks. this cannot be a fuel pump problem now. no problem with the elctrical i figure i have great spark on ignition tester. I can hear the fuel pump prime when i turn the key. but when i went and checked the fuel port i had no pressure. When it is being cranked gas sews out of the test port. Also i dont if this is comon cause i used to turn my keyand go. but when i have someone turn the key and i listen at the gas tank whn the key is shut off i hear gs spraying back into the gas tank. So i am open for opinions.
