ABS is tripping for the past 2 years

Hi, i have a 2000 GMC jimmy and i have replaced 1 left wheel bearing and 5 right wheel bearings in 2 years. The abs will kick in when i break at low speeds and when i hit bumps on the road making the truck hard to stop. It occurs more in the rain as well. Everyone tells me it is the wheel bearings but i know i cant chew threw that many in such a short period of time. Please help!

Check your ABS sensor on your wheel hub. The ABS sensor may be going bad or needs to be re gaped. You can do the work your self to save you some money, Take the front wheel off and look for your ABS sensor, There is going to be a wire harness along your upper A arms, just follow it to the wheel hub. Give it a good spray with brake parts cleaner and re gap it closer to the speed ring on the wheel hub. If you don't have a feeler gap, you can use a dime as the gap reference. After your have done all that and you still have the problem, you can go to the dealer and have them look up if there was a recall campaign for the ABS activating during low speed stops. Good luck and keep me posted Be glad to help.

I think you must replace the entire hub assembly. You need a shop manual to do this correctly.

How to get to the front bearrings to grease them on my 2000 gmc jimmy

If it's a 4x4 they can't be greased. The bearing is pressed into the hub.

If it's 4x2 you'll have to remove the caliper. Take off the dust cover on the rotor. Remove the cotter pin, spindle nut, and washer, to pull the rotor off and grease the inner bearing.

If it's 4x4...Loosen the lugs. Remove the axle shaft nut and washer. Jack it up. Pull the wheel. Remove the caliper/bracket. Trace the ABS sensor wire into the inner fender and unplug it. Remove the nuts/clips that hold the wire from moving around. Look on the back of the hub (spindle) for the three bolts that hold the hub and bearing in place. Remove them and pull out the hub and bearing.

ABS Problem in my 2000 Jimmy 4x4

the best way to diagnose this problem would be with a scan tool while driving and watching the speed sensors, or check all your wheel tone rings make sure there are no cracks and they are clean, also have the computer scaned for abs codes there should be a code that may tell you which wheel speed sensor is acting up,you can also check the wiring, these seem to chaf the wiring by the control arm .a bad wheel bearing may also cause this problem, i would start with a scan of the abs system, good luck.
