Does it look like a long bar? if so, check to see if fuel lines are tight. you have 2 fuel lines 1 is a supply from the tank the other is a return to the tank. also fuel injecter O rings have a tendency to leak over time.. chevrolet caverliers are bad for this

You are describing the fuel pressure regulator...yes could be leaking...the fuel filter is traditionally under the car...(drivers side) several inches in front of the left rear tire, even if old probably not leaking or releasing the gas smell...

Have a gas smell near top of motor-is there a gas line from fuel pump to fuel injection

Yes there is a line from the pumt to the injectors....and also a return line. It is unlikey to leak a small amount from this, as any leaks there are under pressure and spill massive amounts...Look around for smaller leaks, often in fuel vapor recovery system...Be sure gas cap is correct one and installed correctly.

You may have a leaking fuel pressure regulator.
A Fuel Pressure Regulator is a simple mechanical device that holds constant fuel pressure or relieves excess fuel pressure by way of the pressure compressing an internal spring and opening an orifice back to the fuel pump.
Normally it is mounted on top of or near the TBI (injection) throttle bodies, on top of the injector, but if it's not visible there you will need to check a shop manual of follow the fuel line visually.

If it is mounted on the motor (not under the intake cover) you can remove a rubber hose and see if there's gas in the hose. If there is, the regulator has failed. The hose is only supposed to have air in it at all times.

A bad fuel regulator can allow gas to leak onto the ground or actually leak into the motor where it fouls the plugs.

Leaking gas on top of motor not sure what the part is

check for leak at fuel fittings on injector rail, faulty fuel pressure regulator (small round canister type valve on end of fuel rail, has vacuum line attached to top) leaking o-rings on injectors.

Petrol tank leaking.. How do I best remove the tank to fix it?!

Hopefully the gas tank has very little fuel left in it. make sure first that it is not coming from the fuel line which goes in from the top of the tank. always disconnect the battery cables when working around gasoline, of course do not smoke if you do, and do not do it where there are source of spark around such as electric motor and other electrical device that give off spark. Gas fumes are heavier than air and linger close to the ground. Safety first.

Have a fuel leak under front of car

I would trace fuel lines from tank to fuel rail on motor. These are high pressure lines so do not try to quick-fix them. You will have to measure the lines and replace them if they are leaking. Unless the fuel is leaking from lines by fuel rail or by fuel filter.

Usually the fuel pressure regulator vac. hose pops off? If not listen for a slight whistling noise (vac leak).
