SOURCE: 1994 525i BMW, it cranks but it won't start

Dear prettydwilli, Friday 02-20-2009 11:17pm EST (USA)

Could be a fuse or a relay or fuel system gunk in cold weather!
Try a can of Starter fluid sprayed in the air filter!
If it starts and stays running it could be just gunk or junk in the gas tank!
Do you ride til the tanks empty?
If so fill the tank with high test or just get the starter fluid and some expensive ($10) fuel system cleaner to add to your tank and try it again!
If this doesn't work look for a bad relay or fuse at your local auto parts store. Advance Auto Parts is my favorite....they will probably tell you where the relay is located and may let you return it if it doesn't work. They're very helpful!

Check your alarm. because the alarm system has a engine immobilizer which makes the engine do what you are experiencing. Take the car to the dealer and tell them what is going on and they will reset the car system.

SOURCE: 2003 BMW 325i - Car won't start. It will crank the (rrr rrr rrr)

Get a DTC scanner and see what it says...in the meantime, check that fuel pump relay and fuel pump. The humming sound is probably the heater blower motor or part of the HVAC system winding down after disconnecting from power.

Most probably its a low fuel pressure related problem.Get the fuel pressure checked. If its low then this is faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter issue.the other possibilities are,-----

A car that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also this problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the car. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt.If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced. If all the possible options checked out ok then check the car starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the care. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the car to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the car. If it very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the car. If the car starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the car is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gage and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. If the injectors don't have pulse the engine won't start. ---------- This troubleshooting tips will help you to solve the problem.Thanks.Helpmech.

I have a 2008 Mazda 6 That is currently not cranking because the immobilizer has disabled the starter. The little security light flashes every 2 seconds with or without the key in. Battery is good

1 trick to try is this. Turn ignition to run, disconnect battery negative terminal on battery, leave the ignition on for the entire time. Wait 1 hour than re connect battery with the key still on run position. Try to start car, if it starts and runs OK and doesn't shut back than it could been in brain lock. Turn off car and rearm security system. wait about 10 minutes than insert key and start if it continues to run than your probably OK. If it rearms starter disconnect than chip in key or the ring around ignition switch is bad. In that case a dealer will need to replace the part and re program the security system to accept the new part.

1999 Jeep Wrangler is not recognizing transponder key after battery disconnect. Starts and then dies. Does key go bad ? Or is it likely the computer ?

Sounds like you just need a sensor reset. If it starts and dies, it is not the key. That sensor wouldn't even allow it to crank over, let alone start. So the key sensor is off the table. Since it starts, then dies in 5-10 seconds, it has to be a fuel delivery problem. I'm unsure of a test procedure here.

No engine cranck, no warning lights

Check solenoid on starter motor.

A quick fix which works on occasion when solenoid hasn't completely failed is to strike the starter motor body with a hammer whilst trying to start.

Check power to solenoid with the key turned to crank position.

No power to solenoid? Check steering lock cluster, relay and fuses.

Do you have a flashing key on the instrument cluster? Change or re-program the ignition key

If you have no warning lights, no power to solenoid then check negative terminal fixing from battery.

If all is well, yet no crank, then replace starter motor and solenoid.

My Van Was Running OK The nekt day I started the engine, & runs for 5 sec, & stop, keep douing the same thing

Your alarm went off. This is common if it was your crank or cam it would start shut off but give you more than five seconds, Try this roll down a window disconnect the battery and put both terminal together, this will try the BCM(body control module) hod terminal together for 30 seconds reattach the battery put the key in the ignition for 10 seconds in the ACC position then start it. see if that works

1990 z wont start/ crank over Locked key in car so used a slim jim to open Now it wont crank over

Do you still have your OEM key and alarm remote control (if equipped)? If you're sure they work, open your hood and disconnect your battery for 10 minutes, connect it again and proceed to close all doors/hood as usual, arm & desarm the alarm and proceed to open the car with your key and turn it on. Did this help??
