What are the tune-up guidelines for 2000 Jetta that has 153K miles? Also, in the past week the oil gauge stopped working (but oil level is good) and the trunk latch won't open (it makes the sound like the trunk is popping open but won't open). Are the oil gauge and trunk latch easy fixes?

id bet you never check oil levels, and just drive it for 20k miles
with no weekly fluid checks.?

or change oil at 5k?

Did you have the oil leak prior to changing the oil? The "change engine oil" indicator is just a service reminder to get the oil changed. You need to reset it. Call your local dealer or check your owner's manual for instructions on doing this. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oil pressure and oil level are two different creatures.

your oil gauge determines oil pressure while the oil can (red light on dash) indicates oil levels.

There are usually two different sensors but can gauge the same types of things. E.G. - If your oil is so low that your pressure gauge is affected this can cause engine failure. Thus--a good rule of thumb is to check your oil once a week as the oil pressure gauge and red oil can may not always work as intended.

Could be the gauge that having problem,just for cost effectiveness replace the oil pressure switch,if the problem persist you have a gauge problem

Either the oil level is very low or the engine bearings have failed (assuming the gauge is accurate) if the engine isn't making noise and the level is full have a mechanical gauge installed to check actual pressure. if good, the sending unit or gauge is faulty.
If in doubt, do not drive or run the engine 'tll the problem has been diagnosed.

If your oil gauge is always on high it could be a plugged up filter. I put 400,000 miles on a 4.0 before I did a overhaul.

MAKE SURE YOUR ENGINE IS WELL TUNED. MAKE SURE TURBO IS WORKING NO RESTRICTED EXHAUST..ALL PLUGS AND WIRES ARE GOOD.SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING.HAVE TRANSMISSION PRESSURE TESTED.IF FLUID LEVEL GOOD AND TRANSMISSION FILTER NOT STOPPED UP.PROBLEM COULD BE TRANSMISSION SHIFT VALVES OR TRANSMISSION PUMP OUT PUT PRESSURE TOO LOW.

The "oil light" is actually a "low oil pressure" light, and not a "low oil level" light. I would get it checked out at a garage asap.
Did they change the filter at the same time? D

SEE IF THE MUFLER HAS ANY SINGS OF OIL OUTSIDE
BUT MAY BE YOUR CAR WAS BURNING OIL BY EXAUST OR WHO KNOWS SOME ONE MIGH HAD ADD DIESEL INSTEAD OF FUEL?
