#1. Check battery voltage and battery cables. Voltage should be between 13.6 / 14.4 Volts.
#2. Follow all ground connections & make sure everything is snug.

90% of the time, the M and S will flash do to a loose batt cable or a loose ground somewhere, or even a dying battery that needs replaced.

SOURCE: transmission problem stuck in sport shift mode

I also have a 2009 Outlander Sportronic transmission with a V6 engine.
Bought it this summer ... transmission appeared fine but seemed to automatically slow down the vehicle using the engines compression whenever I let go of the gas pedal.
Now that the cold weather is upon us here in Canada, whenever I accelarate normally (not like a teenager) the transmission takes quite a bit of time to shift into second... If I rev up the engine (quick take off) it seems to help but the shifting of gears is not as smooth as I would expect it (mildly slips and kicks into second)...

The worst is when come to a complete stop ... then the transmission kicks coming down from the higher gears???

I read somewhere that this is because this transmission is a CVT type and is learning my driving habits in order to adjust itself so the vehicle becomes more fuel efficient... Not sure but if the trany is computer controlled then it must be poorly writen program...
I'm taking the car in to the dealer and will write back on the diagnostic they give me ...

SOURCE: The S (sports mode) light

The flashing S light is the transmission control unit telling you there is an issue somewhere. Click here to diagnose the problem. That post is for 92-93 accords where the D4 light is for TCU errors, but diagnosing is the same. Just replace every instance of "D4 light" with "S light".

Why is the sport mode light flashing on my 2000 Cadillac Catera?

Sport Mode Indicator Lamp and Automatic Transmission Warning Lamp (STL)
The sport mode indicator lamp illuminates when the vehicle has been put into the sport mode by pressing the "S" button on the gear selector. When this lamp is illuminated the vehicle will have slightly firmer shifts and increased performance for part and full throttle situations.
This lamp will also flash when there may be a problem with the automatic transmission. The transmission control module (TCM) performs a continual self diagnosis of certain control functions. The lamp will flash only when an error is detected. The TCM will store in memory a current and/or history trouble code when a problem is detected. I'd have it checked out !

Sport mode shift light flashing?

The s light blinking means you have an active code in you tcu or transmission control unit. there is a juumper wire behind the passenger side kick panel and if you use a paper clip or small wire to connect both terminals in the connector you can read the engine and transmission code out on the dash. Once the jumper wire is connected turn the key to the on position engine off and count how many times the s light blinks. Thats the number of your code. I would read the codes out first before doing anything else.

"Sports" sensor l reading on the dash regarding the transmission.

It's going into safe mode. This link I included at the bottom of my note will explain everything. I just repaired this problem 3 weeks ago on a 91 Accord. She needs to find out if the transmission computer is burned out. If so replace it only from a 90-93 Accord that also has the Sport Shift feature.

The green (S) Light on the instrument panel comes on (and remains on). What is that for? What is the solution, if any? Thanks

this indicates the transmission is operating in "sport" mode. there is a switch to the rear of the transmission shift lever on the center console. depress the switch to take the transmission out of sport mode and the "s" on the dash will disappear. Press again it will reappear. Sport mode will operate the transmission in a sportier feeling shift pattern and will use more fuel. The switch is labeled "mode". It frequently gets depressed when I lay things in the console.
