Question about 1999 Suzuki Vitara
The gearstick has come completely adrift from the gearbox
Hmmm, that would have been disturbing... Fixing it depends on where it has come apart, the main lever is connected to the stub lever via a rubber bush and crimp, the stub lever is retained with a push and twist cap. either way, you will need to remove the console via 4 screws, 2 each side. push the rubber boots for the gear lever and transfer case through the console to remove it. remove the 4 lower gear lever boot bolts and lift it up to expose the gearbox, there is a metal clip retaining a rubber cover and under that is the push and twist cap. push it and rotate anticlockwise. if it won't come off, removing the 2 bolts either side of the housing will also release the gear lever. The whole lot should then come away and you should be able to see what part has let go...
