You have to have a thermostat in the system. Have a compression test done to check for head gasket or cracked head/s. Check the flow rate of the radiator ( blocked cores) check the condition of the cooling fins on the radiator. Check the radiator cap. Check if the fan is working when hot.. If you have a viscous fan hub on the fan then replace it . run the fault codes to check for air/fuel problems . Check for load and speed conditions as high speed when fully loaded will cause your problem . Check that it is actually engaging over drive and not over reving the engine.

SOURCE: ford ranger truck overheating

I have had this happen with my ranger. Changed everything I could to try to fix the over heating. It turned out that I had a small leak in my head gasket and it was allowing exsaust gas to go into the cooling system witch was over pressurizing it. Also the air from the exsaust will heat up much faster than liquid making your thermostat to read hot and will not be able to blow hot air in the cab because there is no liquid going to the heater core. This happened to me when my blet came off and I tryed to make it home. If you had it over heat for a long peirod of time it may have ripped the head gasket.

Why is my 98 eclipse gst overheating after I changed the thermostats

check anti-freeze ratio.....make sure fan is working...check hoses as some aftermarket hoses do not have springs inside which allow them to close up from the suction thus slowing water flow.

My Mitsubishi eclipse 2003 overheats when I stand in traffic. Temperature goes up, like crazy. At the shop they said it's thermostat, so I changed it. Everything is still the same. Plus in winter is...

The two statements are contradictory. The thermostat should assist in warming up the engine in the cold but if it is stuck closed it would overheat but warm up quickly. Overheating in the summer could be the fan not kicking in in traffic. You can check a thermostat by boiling it in water and observing the temperature at which it starts to open. This information should be stamped on the unit. You can also watch the fan to see if it kicks in with the engine idling when hot. If it does not it could be the thermostatic switch or the fan itself.

My 1998 eclipse gst is very very hard too start and when it does start it back fires and the engine shakes very bad ..what could it be?

When was the last time you had your engine tuned up? Could be out of time. Have a mechanic change your wires, plugs and rotor and then check the timing.
