Should leave on and get fasteners from dealer or fastener shop. Auto body shops and suppliers will have them too.

I have a 2011 kia Sorento that continues to blow the 40 amp ignition fuse under the hood. Replace the fuse...runs a couple days then blows again. We have replace relays and fuses and checked starter..

Starters will still work when worn but will have increased drag drewing too many amps. which will blow your fuses. before replacing older starter first remove all wire connections shiny clean and replace. make certain starter is tight to block(this is your ground. ) Important to remove ground cable from battery before working on starter.

Under the car there is a hard plastic cover what is this and is it important?

it a cover to protect different parts rain and other things can fly up in there its mostley on foreign cars you have to remove it to get to your oil filter it just gives your engine better protection from under the car i would say keep it on there if you remove it put it back on ive taken alot of them off to work on cars what makes you ask this question

Burning smell, but no apparent leaks..on the ground under the vehicle at least.

Inspect closely at valve cover areas, just above the exhaust manifolds, that is the most common location for burning, as oil gets to it, but may be burned off, and never reach the ground...

How to set the timeing on 91 geo storm

The timing marks are located near the top of the crankshaft pulley on the plastic timing belt cover. There is a notch in the pulley to mark TDC (Top Dead Center)
Align the notch with the 0 mark on the plastic cover to set your base timing.
Ground the proper circuit on the ALDL connecter located under the dashboard somewhere under the steering wheel. Check the manual for the proper circuit to ground.
With the engine warm and the circuit grounded. Set the proper timing. Un-ground the circuit and you are done.
