The lights for my climate control buttons, hazzard button, and defrost light are out. I have checked all fuses (I think). What else could it be?

It might be the dash dimmer control(the knob you turn) as these are known to cause inop interior dash lights

John, I think I may have already answered this one.Check and clean battery connections and all grounds(loosen and re tighten all ground connections to give good contact), check belt for being loose. Nissan forums say it is a bad alternator.

How do i fix a 1997 nissan maxima taillights. i have no tell lights and not the fuse?

If you have no lights period I would check the wiring. If it's not the fuses (Under hood and inside). Just the brake lights check the brake switch under brake pedal.
Some Nissan's have a unit between the wiring that goes out. Trace the wires from the tail lights It would be in the trunk. Small black box.
Also check Maxima.org someone on there has the answer. ;Good luck.

The defrost button does not work, it does not iluminate when I push it but it does not defrost

The light behind the button is supposed to come on when the defroster is on. Does the light turn on? If it turns on, check fuse #46 and #47 in the fuse box next to the battery.

If it doesn't turn on, 9 times out of 10 it's the electrical contact behind the button. It's a common issue that requires replacing the climate control unit. That's the part with all the dials in the lower center dash. It's not a difficult repair, just time consuming. You have to disassemble the dash and remove the radio to get to the part, then disconnect a couple of electrical plugs and the control cables for the fan and heater.

Get the part used, because a new one costs over $300. I got mine from a wrecked car off eBay for $40 shipped. There are videos on YouTube on how to disassemble the dash. Once you get to the control unit, everything is pretty obvious. If you decide to have it done at a shop, count on an hour or two of labor if the person knows what they're doing.

Heater and defroster blower not working. There is no sound and no air blowing out of vents at any mode of operation.

Check the fuses first and make sure you have power to that fuse. Also check to see that you have power to the control switch if you have power there then it may be the fan motor.

A/C doesn't blow from main stream (face, feet, face & feet etc.,), instead blows from defrosting stream near main glass.

If your Maxima is equipped with Automatic climate control, you must put your control unit into self-diagnostic mode, then follow the troubleshooting chart for whichever fault code is output by the climate control unit. (most likely a mode control motor fault)

If your Maxima is equipped with manual climate control, there are two main causes. The mode control (push button) switch unit and the mode control motor.
The switch must be tested first, then the wiring between the switch and the motor. If these things check good, then the motor should be replaced.

Key fob not working

hello mate.. if it has stopped working you might want to check the battery first.. if you are sure that the battery is fine then consider reprogramming the fob to your car.. here are the steps to follow.. NISSAN

Remote Control Fob Procedures:

The Central Door locking is controlled by the Multi-Remote Control system which controls
the door locking, door super locking and emergency hazard reminders.

When the doors are locked and unlocked the unit flashes the hazard lights once for lock and twice for unlock.

A maximum of four remote controls are allowed to be programmed:

ALMERA
ALMERA TINO
PRIMERA
MAXIMA
MICRA
SERENA
VANETTE CARGO
TERANO II

Ensure all the doors have been unlocked, either by using a good transponder key or remote
control plip key.

Procedure:
1. Turn the ignition switch from Position 0 to ON 6 times within 10 seconds.
2. Next, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Leave key in ignition switch.
3. Wait 2 seconds then the system will enter programming mode and will flash the warning
lights twice.
4. Press and HOLD the unlock button on the Plip.
5. While pressing the unlock button, press the lock button 3 times.
6. Release the unlock button.
7. The warning lights will flash once to indicate successful programming.
8. Repeat procedure 4 to 7 for up to 4 plip key's.
9. When completed turn ignition ON, and the warning lights will flash 2 times.
10. Remove key, and check all plip key's for operation.
NOTE : The programming mode will stop when either the ignition is switch ON, 4 plip keys
have been programmed or no input signal either from the switch or plip keys has been received
for 120 seconds.
