rear brake lights not working on 85 bmw 318i, dont know what fuse to replace or?

try the switch ??check it with a meter for continuity,check for feed to stop light switch if both appear ok then look at bulbs ,if you still cant work it out then use a paper clip across the two wires on the stop light switch and see if lights come on ,then go from their
