Question about 1984 Honda Accord

1984 Honda Accord Transmission Grinding

It's an Automatic Transmission 4 speed.
When I put the car from Park to Neutral, from Reverse to Neutral, or from either Park or Reverse passing through Neutral into Drive, I hear a disgusting grinding sound. Sometimes just a little click, and sometimes long 5-6 second grinds. It sounds like something isn't stopping when it's supposed to and it collides with another part while spinning. Do I need to replace my transmission or can I look at it myself to see if there might be something visually obvious when i'm looking at it.
HELP!

Thanks

I would recommend you take it to 3 different repair shops to get quotes on the cost of repairs.
Sounds internal to me .
Automatic transmissions are best left to the Pro's to fix , You need alot of tools and a very very very clean workshop for starters.
Hope this helps , Sorry I couldn't offer a quick fix.

I have a 1991 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder automatic transmission. I was driving about 10 mph when it just stopped moving. The engine starts and runs fine but when I put it in drive or reverse it won't drive....

You have internal problems with it. Clutches are bad, or could be a hard part broken. The grinding is from the inside of the transmission turn and you put it in park. This is a normal sound, if you were driving and slammed it in park. Except your not moving.

I have a 91 honda accord with an automatic trans. & when i shift into reverse it refuses to engage & makes a high pitch gear slipping grinding sound ! NOT GOOD ! ,I just replaced the transmission con

Definitely not good. The transmission is slipping internally due to worn gears and clutch packs. It will have to come out for rebuilding, IMO. Have a transmission shop check it out.
Good luck.

I have a 99 Honda accord that makes a loud grinding noise when switching gears from park to reverse and won't go. It is automatic transmission. What could be the problem

Based on Info...
Possible Sun Gear Failure, or Other Internal.
Check Fluid Level. Although it Seems Damage is Done.
Remove and Replace.

1999 Accord Automatic Transmission issue

im so sorry to say that Honda has a bad transmission line in the 98-02 accord models.. there were severe recalls on this very matter..I only got rid of my 99 accord V6 because the shop who changed my motor mounts crushed my transmission line and blamed it on me..if you had motor mounts or timing done or serpentine belt(i forgot if it has both or just 1),then check to see if transmission line is crushed it can be seen right underneath the battery..

Reverse acts as neutral. (auto tranny)

It is hard to say, but as long as all of the forward gears work fine, then it might work for a long time. But without knowing what is wrong, I would at least change the fluid to remove as much metal or clutch material as you can. Don't worry about the filter, you can't change it without disassembling the trans. Just drain the fluid and refill it. This won't fix reverse, but it might prolong further problems. And don't park where you can't pull straight out.
