Overheated 1997 kia sportage to point of shut off and now it won't start. Turns over and begins to advance but wont run.

Most engines these days are fitted with a safety valve that opens a vacuum in the engine to stall it if the temperature gets too hot, this is to prevent you from cooking/seizing the engine, once the engine has cooled the valve will close and the engine can be restarted, however, this information is not where the problem is, you need to determine a number of factors that cause overheating and start an elimination process. hope this helps.

I have 95 Toyota corolla 1.8 litter I notice when it get cold it drive find but once its get hot it stalls I do have a small leak on top of the radiator in when it stall smoke was coming from the top of it...

you must fix the radiator the steamed antifreeze is creating a spray back on the engine and is grounding out a sensor or the spark plug wires causing the stalling it is not good to keep doing this to the vehicle these cars run for ever but not if you keep letting it overheat which is what happens when enough anti freeze leaks out

since engine light came on there should be an error code
on computer.Get a diagnostic checker or take to a garage and have them hook uo to the diag connector. I bought a diagnostic checker few years ago and it has come in very handy

I have an 97 corolla and when i try to start the car it only cranks and dosent start?

This sounds like a "heat soak"issue(something is failing on a hot engine shutoff). The low tech solution I used to use often was a can of brake cleaner.Get the car hot, shut it off,and try to restart. If it wont, try spraying a quick burst of cleaner at various sensors(to cool them off) and trying to start it again. The most common sensor I would find as the cause was the crankshaft position sensor.(Sometimes a little tough to get at).

Location of thermostat on 1997 corolla

Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, the part where the hose connects, is the thermostat housing, remove it to get to the thermostat.
DO NOT WORK ON THE COOLING SYSTEM WHEN ENGINE IS HOT.
A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

2001 chevy s10 loses power, will not stall, restart runs better.

SOUND LIKE ENGINE GETTING TOO HOT.THAT WILL CAUSE LOST OF POWER.CHECK COOLING CLUTCH FAN IF IT HAS RESISTANCE WHEN ENGINE HOT FAN CLUTCH IS GOOD.IF FAN CLUTCH FREE WHEELS WITH NO RESISTANCE WHEN ENGINE HOT.FAN CLUTCH IS BAD.THAT WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO RUN HOT WHILE DRIVING.

1997 Geo Metro Stalling

After driving for a while and the engine becomes hot, when you park the car for a while, does this "for a while" mean enough time for the engine to cool down or not?

The reason why this is important is because an engine can stall for a number of reasons, and finding out the conditions of its stalling obviously helps narrow down the cause of the stall.

If it stalls, you say, when the engine cools down after being parked for a while, this handy diagnostic article will help assess the cause of your problem:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Stalls_When_Cold.htm

If it stalls again, like you said, after warming up and driving for a bit, the ambient temperature may be too as well as the engine itself, which then you should be inclinde to read this diagnostic article:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Stalls_When_Hot.htm

You may very well be right its due to fuel starvation, particularly as to the malfunctioning of the EGR, as noted in the article.

I'm sure these articles will provide you with great insight.
Good luck!

1990 626 won't start when engine is hot

I had the same problem a few years ago. The problem was a cracked coil. The unit would expand and separate when the car got hot and it took a while to cool off and reconnect.

Starting Problem

Look on the distributor. There is a module on it that, when too hot, will cause miss/stall/no re-start situations.
