Yes, it could but starters usually give you an indication. They drag, grind but usually let you know before they just quit. Could be the battery, or more likely a bad battery connection. And batteries are cheaper!

Honda crv 04' key won't turn over & I'm stranded

if your battery isnt dead (try boosting it) then check to make sure the car is in park all the way and try again if nothing happens you need a new starter. alot of people dont put the shifter all the way back to park and that keeps it from starting.

Won't start from battery but starts from boost. Battery is okay starter is okay

Probably an intermittent ignition switch. Try start it by connecting a wire directly to the starter solenoid and touching it on the + of the battery. Ignition switch must be ON and be sure the car is NOT in gear.

If your battery post & connectors are clean, free of corrosion and tight my guess would be the starter or starter solenoid. (you didn't say if it was turning over ok or just not starting)

Hi, I have a Nissan Altima 95. Had a starter problem. I live in colder climate region of Alberta, canada. I purchased a used starter from a parts seller in Texas. I replaced the starter in July of 2009....

Yes continious cranking of an engine puts a big strain on a starter in any weather, but almost certainly in cold, it takes a lot of amps to turn an engine, It maybe the fuel is starting to freeze?, Maybe it's an electrical issue such as points, plugs timing, distributor cap, rotor arm inside the cap, maybe it's just settings

sounds like you have a bad starter. If you can see the starter have someone bang on it while you turn the key. it might start. if it does you still need to replace the starter. Make sure the cables going to the starter are clean and tight.

2004 Civic not starting

Could be a "lazy" starter motor, I know that mine suffered with a "odd starting problem".
If the motor cranks, but not fast enough to fire up, then that is probably it.
