Mine and a friends cruze both have this problem. after some research it appears that water gets to the button on the trunk and causes it to fail. it has to be replaced... i have not done this yet, but soon
Broken handle or cable. or you locked the hand release for the trunk, if so equipped, without knowing it
SOURCE: Trunk release will not work, but I can open it with my key
inside the trunk near the latch is a switch that kills the trunk remote
SOURCE: Change Batteries in my Remote door, (lock/unlock) and trunk opene
is the battery installed in the right orientation?
SOURCE: the trunk on my 2000 volvo s-40 wont open
you'll need to insert your key into the trunk lock. prior to doing this you'll need to use the automatic lock on the driver side of the vehicle, hit the unluck button twice. Torn the key in the trunk to the left, you may have to slightly press the trunk button in while doing this and give it a lttle wiggle after the key has been turneed to the left push the button all the way in, if this does not work repeat the process but reverse to the right instead of the left.
This manually disables the remote lock for your trunk.
SOURCE: can't open trunk with remote control. When unlock,
2007 then to re programme key it needs dealer software diagnostic machine ,if this is the problem but i think the problem is the operating solonoid in the boot ,i think it may be stuck or sticking ,locking but not releasing and if this is the case then remove the panel and oil the rod on top of the operating mechanism with engine oil so it soaks down into the solonoid and after a couple of days it should free its self up .
Make sure you have good batteries in your key fob. Also, there is a trunk, lock, and unlock relay. If anyone of those are bad you can have this problem.
