These cars have electronic controls for the transmission. A mechanic should check it out. Find one you can trust.

Since the transmission shifting and torque converter lock (cruise speeds) up are computer controlled you need to have a scanner hooked up that can read Transmission control module (TCM) fault codes. Also check for engine codes as this could be a misfire, but in that case the check engine light should be flashing while the engine is misfiring and set a fault code. If no codes of any kind are present in memory when the testing is done you almost certainly have a mechanical fault in the transmission like a malfunctioning torque converter clutch, but even that should set a fault code, so have the testing done.

My 1999 Dodge Dakota 2WD, 3.9 V6, has major hesitation shifting from 2nd to 3rd and also downshifts in and out of OD at about 55 to 60 mph. Above 60, it wants to stay in 3rd only. Took valve body off and...

Is the 1-2 shift high also? When you had the valve body off did you check the screens on the governor solenoid and the 3-4 shift solenoid? These tend to plug up.

My 2002 jeep cherokee will not downshift and the

Not to behurtfull, but what sucks,is that you ignored the check light and shift issues for two years. I won't express my true feelings here. Now get a real professional scanner on it,and look for codes. Address those issues yourself as you see fit. Your best bet, is to spend the money at a real good ASE Certified repair shop and end all this,in one sweep. Having owned a trans shop, I don't see a positive out come here, if you continue to ignore issues more than a couple weeks, as they surface.

Hello! Gary, I hope you might be able to help me

I just personally went through somewhat of the same problem, but it happened sporadically when ever the car felt like it, and as it turns out, after i replaces the shift control and the lock-out solenoids along with my speed senor on my tranny, the problem was my transmission ECU, which brand new was 1700 dollars, but i went to the junk yard and pulled one for $48. Its located under the carpet on the passenger side, where the passengers feet would be, and it should be the one on the right, the other computer is the Pgm-fi. If you replace this small box, it should fix your problem.

2004 GMC sierra 5.3 eng 1500 transmission shutter 40-55 mph

I too have that problem. I own a 2005 GMC Yukon. Shutters between 40 + 55 mph. I thought for sure the stumble I felt was a plug or coil pack because it only does it under a load. With A/C on the whole truck shakes! But it wasnt the plugs or coil packs. Answers anyone?
