Question about 1998 Ford Escort

Stutters/misses, especially under acceleration

Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. At idle, every minute or two there's a miss. Under anything but gentle acceleration, it misses like crazy, jerking and stuttering.
Had spark plugs, wires, fuel filter replaced. Fuel additive didn't help.
Ignition coil looks good, no corrosion.
It's been doing this for maybe 500 miles. Sometimes seems to improve or even go away, always returns.
Subaru mechanic on phone said it could be a fuel-air mixture sensor that's off, suggests I bring it in to plug into their analyzer.

Hello, It could be related to your A/F ratio sensor, but it also could be a faulty (stuck open) EGR valve if your vehicle is equipped with one. Depending on the year of your vehicle you can disconnect the source vacuum line for your EGR valve and plug it off with a golf "T", small bolt, or any thing that will fit snug into the vacuum line. If it cures the problem, you'll have to replace the vacuum solenoid that supplies vacuum to the EGR valve. If nothing changes it could just mean that the valve is so carboned up that it can't close all the way. You can remove the valve to make sure that all of the passages are clear. If they are clear of carbon build up, I would then take it to a shop for more testing. You can find the location of you EGR valve in any repair manual. I hope this info helps...(subytech1)...

    Hello, I would do a quick check before you spend money at a shop for diagnosis. With your hood open, look for your EGR valve, it should be mounted on your intake manifold towards the drivers side on the back of the intake. It will look kind of like a silver or goldish colored flying saucer with one vacuum line coming out of the side of it. Pull off the vacuum line and plug the line with a somewhat snug fitting bolt, golf tees work perfect when you can find one. Then go and drive it, If your car runs like a champ after that, you will need ether one or both of these: EGR valve, and/or EGR valve vacuum actuator. If this is your problem, which it sounds to me like it is, your EGR or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve is allowing cooler exhaust gasses to enter the intake inhibiting proper combustion causing your vehicle to "choke-out" on acceleration. It is mainly utilized during long tern freeway type cruising to lower overall combustion chamber temps resulting in a large reduction of the NOX(oxides of nitrogen) emission which is caused by high combustion temps. 97subaru impreza outback sport wagon 2.2 1234 misfire replaced plugs ,wires, coil pack, fuel filter added injector cleaner check engine light blinking with no code.what do you think i should do next?


check you ecu. same problem happen to me in an izuzu rodeo. I let my fuel get to low and it sucked dirt into the filter and messed with that and it set off a code for the ecu and messed it up but if i had just replaced the ecu first i wouldnt have had to change the injectors or anything.

Rough(missing) when cold. Smooths out a little after warming up.


It is not unlikely a plug wire got put back on on the wrong plug. These cars will still run with a few plugs wrong.

Most Subarus have a coating on the bottom of the chassis called Cosmoline, which is an anti corrosion compound sprayed on at the factory to protect them during shipping. The only thing I can recommend is to have your brakes inspected for siezed caliper slide bolds, severe rotor deterioration, and sway bar end links that may be broken or are about to break. You should also have the exhaust looked at because that is usually the first to go and the biggest pain when trying to get it emissions tested. I hope this info helps...

2007 subaru outback headlight problem


Each head lamp also has it's own relay, you can rule the relay out by swapping the left head light relay with the right head light relay & see if the problem moves to the other side...The relays are also in the same under hood fuse box.
