Engine system service required

Two days ago I took my XC90 to service and got new brakes, then today I first  got an error message saying "Brake system service requested" and then it said "Engine system service required".  What's wrong with my car?And is it safe for me to drive 1000 miles tonight with this error?

SOURCE: engine system service requested message means?

on Most cars it means to take it in for routine maintenance, Oil change etc. A lot of newer cars have this feauture to remind you to do the oilchanges.

SOURCE: Volvo XC70 I have had several computer errors

Check two items, chassey grounds by battery, transmission and starter. Also, check to make sure the alternator is providing enough voltage, should be around 14 amps. Had a similar problem with my 2002 XC70, replacing the alternator fixed it! I used the Car Talk website to find a good local mechanic vs. the stealer.

SOURCE: 2004 volvo s60 computer says there are multiple

I have the same problem with my S60. I have since found that some of the problems is caused by the accelerator pedal sending confusing signals to the ECU. I am in the process of replacing the pedal and rheostat assembly to see what improvement there is.
I recently spoke to the only technician that seems to know about this problem. When I told him about the gauges dropping and in my car the headlights come on and I cannot open the windows he immediately knew what the problem was. He asked my if I fitted a bluetooth device to the car, which I have. I fitted a bluetooth car kit some time ago. He said he had the same problem with another car and after removing the car kit the problem was solved. I have done a lot of research on this problem and you are welcome to contact me for more information at wvdm@global.co.za

By the way, if you press the trip meter reset button the gauges will come alive again

SOURCE: i have xc90 d5 there

Hi,

This is probably due to a problem with the swirl flap actuator arm - if you remove the top of the engine cover (the plastic bit) and look at the top, left front of the engine, do you see a plastic arm (approx 70 - 100 mm long) disconnected?

Regards,

After new brakes, grinding noise in rear. repair guy says need $600.00 proportion valve job! Already had new one 3 years ago.

The grinding sound could be a brake pad installed wrong or backwards. There should not be any grinding what so ever. There is a serious problem.I would take it to a shop or dealership you can trust and have it check out.

Volvo xc90 2012 "check Stop Lamp" error

Some short or loss connections there; also check Brake Module harnesses. If the information is right, you 2012 Volvo even have underwarranty, before to do it something, ask your dealer.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Squeaking noise when applying the brakes, have had the brakes serviced and cleaned 6 times, and still have noisy brakes.

its sounds like the shims where not installed on the brake pads like they should of. or the pads are glazed from overheating

I would suggest that you take it to another shop and have the system checked by a technician.A good pad to install is wagner thermo quiet brake pads and have them check the thickness of the rotors also.A good technician will check your complete braking system to make sure there are no faulty parts.

Engine System service required on message center. What does it mean?

it could mean it needs a tune up, or a sensor has gotten fouled. try getting a tune up, new plugs, new wires, new air filter and a oil change. or have a mechanic hook it up to a scanner and see if there is a error code. that will tell you exactly what is wrong
