2006 Passat Air Conditioning Problem

Hi, I've bee having problems with my A/C. Sometimes it blows really cold air specially when its running consistently for at least 15-18 minutes on the highway. However, when I am in the city, going stop light to stop light the A/C seems to blow warm air. I had the VW dealer replaced the compressor and the condenser once because the compressor stopped working completely. It was working for a few days and then the problem is present once again. I took it back to the VW dealership and they said nothing was wrong. I keep having the same issue where the A/C keeps blowing warm air if I am stopped or again if the car is in drive gear and going in the city. Has anyone had this issue with their Passat? If so, can you please share what the problem was?

Thanks for your help.

There is an electrical relay that is malfuctioning. I had the same problem on my 2000 VW Passat. I just got it fixed, part cost 48 dollars and labor will be about an hour.

I've heard it's a bad solder joint on relays. Checkout passat world forum

I'm going through this same problem. It started months ago when I noticed it blew hot air at times. It progressively got worse, and I especially noticed it when I put the car in ParK. With the engine running and in Park, the heat came on. This happened to me on more than one occasions. This weekend it went totally crazy, now it is only blowing "Heater" heat with the air turned on. Not a good situation to be in. I have eliminated fuses and any other troubleshooting. I will be taking it back to the dealership yet again. They act like I'm crazy.

AC blows cold air, fans stop blowing

I think you have a "variable speed resistor" problem, it's overheating. It's an electronic device usually located near or attached to the AC motor blower that controls the fan speed. This is a common problem with aging AC blowers with electronic controls.

Someone will need to find out if the compressor clutch is failing, or if it is loosing power due to a pressure switch or other problem.
A faulty relay or switch could get hot and switch off power to the compressor.

My ac in my 2006 saturn ion blows cold air when its under 80 degrees outside but when its over 80 degrees it will blow warm air sometimes and cold sometimes what could be wrong with it

You likely need to charge the AC with freon. If it has been a year or three since you've had it checked, it is probably low on freon and needing to have some added.

If this was happening to me.... I'd goto an airconditioning re-gas centre and get them to check for gas leaks. In my old commodore the Evaporator Core was leaking and causing some of the issues you have mentioned.

you have moisture in the system this causes your expancion valve to freeze up an stop working, thats why it works for sort time and when it de-freezes stars working again. you need to do a EVAC & RECHARGE with a good AC service equipment, specially attention to pull vacumm por at least 20minutes so you get all moisture out of the system.

A/C blows warm air

Have your a/c tech look at the pressures at an idle. It sounds like the condensing coil does'nt have enough airflow or the compressor is week. Another possible problem could be that the temp control door is'nt operating properly. Hope this helps. Good luck.
