Question about Mazda MX-3

2 Answers

I drive a 92 mazda mx-3. not sure if this is part of the problem or not, when my A/C is on my car will stall when stopped but i'm in hawaii so no real need for that. but when i press in my clutch i loose power to where my car stalls at 50mph or more, there i have the choice to popping the clutch then (can any damage happen from that at those speeds?) or rolling off to the side of the road and starting it again, happened about 6 times on my way to work last night. this morning it didn't stall on the way home but when stopped my car dropped to around 500 - 600 rpms, and when i started forward the car was shakey untill i hit 2500 rpms in second gear then i get a sudden burst of power that knocks me back into my seat.

Check for vacuum leaks, cracked or broken hoses. Clean the throttle body and idle control ports with oxygen sensor safe carb cleaner. Last of all and most important is to get the idle control valve motor tested, it may not be responding quick enough to the sudden change in engine speed to keep it idleing. Also popping the clutch while in your highest gear will not damage anything, at least it never did for me. Don't do it in the lower gears at high speed, it will over rev the engine and that will cause engine damage.

There is a relay that raises the idle when the air conditioner is on. It is now twenty years old. Find it and change it. A Chilton's book will show you where it is hiding, usually with others by the circuit breakers and fuses under the hood. Beware of cheap knockoffs, get a factory part from the dealer.

I have a 92 mazda mx3 that i just replaced my water pump on and we thought my radiator was leaking so we put radiator stop leak in and right after that my heater stopped working the heater was working fine...

the stop leak has clogged your heater core. you may be able to flush it out if there is still some flow, otherwise heater core will need to come out.

92 mx-3 code 3 and 34

You need to check the resistance for the ISC (Idle speed control) should be 10.7-12.3 ohms (at 68* F)

Check connector at ECU and make sure that connector doesn't have a broken wire to it. Make sure you have voltage at the connector with the key on.

I suggest getting a service manual. If you've never done one before, a book will explain a vehicle specific order of operations. Chiltons or Haynes are good. consider it $20 insurance. Good Luck.

A 92 Mazda mx3 with a 1.8ltr v-6 while at an idle goes from 1500 rpms to 900 rpms and back up and down but not while driving, how do I get it to idle correctly

change the idle air control motor and check to see if the ports are clogged, this too will cause surging idle. the idle air control motor is located on or near the throttle body
