Question about 2000 Honda Civic

2 Answers

Just bought a 2000 Civic EX and took it to the mechanic for a regular check up. They told me that someone had taken the engine out and possibly swapped it. The Vin number on the Engine is the same one as on the car, however. Now I'm looking at the engine numbers. The one in my car is a d16y7. Is this the correct engine? Some websites say there should be a y8, but others say the y7 is the correct one. WHich is it, and how much horsepower is the car really putting out?

I don't think it is your catalytic converter because your light usually flashes and a bad cat I never heard of them causing a misfire. I ran your other code it is for a faulty EGR system. Exhaust gas recirculation excessive. You are getting too much exhaust gas back in the system. This will cause your misfire. Go-to a trusted mechanic and have them check out your EGR system.

My 2000 Honda Civic ex is not feeling well. It has begun to constantly overheat - The engine also seems to leak a bit of oil. I was told I need to replace the entire engine. Does this sound...

Who told you to replace the entire engine??? -An engine salesman? You should take advice with caution especially if the advisor stands to benefit. To fix overheating, try putting in a new thermostat. The new thermostat and gasket should cost you less than 20 bucks. Make sure your cooling fans cut on when the engine is warmed up. If not, then check the fuses and relays to the fans. Double check your coolant level. Your oil consumption is perfectly normal.

Honda Civic 2000 EX

the idle air control valve should be checked for operation both mechanically and electrically, it could be defective. cost depends on which trans you have auto around $230.00 for the part, manual around $150.00 for the part. at those prices I would be darn sure it has a problem before replacement, or find one from a salvage yard in better shape.
