Question about 1999 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

Relays and don't know what they control

Okay, I have a few relays that I don't know what they control.

Three large relays (F0AB-14B192-AA) have come from a relay box located beneath the driver's side dash board (above the fuse box, next to a large white box that I am assuming is the GEM).

7 relays- one large (F0AB-14B192-AA) and six smaller (F57B-14B192-AA) that have come out of a relay box mounted next to the battery (driver's side). This is where the CCRM would be in a Gen II 1996 or 1997 model year. From 1998-2001 Ford replaced the CCRM is the Power Distribution Box and this relay box.

Relays that I know I should have, but seem to have literature to tell me where to find them:

High Speed Cooling Fan
Horn

So I have 10 Relays, and I don't know the purpose of them. Any information would really help because I can't find the information on the relay box, the Owner's Manual, or the Haynes' Manual (I'm even looking at the wiring diagrams and they're showing the CCRM- mine would be different because the Fuel Pump and the Lo Speed Cooling Fan are both in the Power Distribution Box). Please help!

What dose a 14b192-aa relay does

It's a fairly common component...can be used to drive the fuel pump, or some electrical accessories or circuits in your vehicle. If the question is "What is the general use and how does it work?" It is one way to use your main voltage from the battery and control one or many different voltages required with the help of a series of separate contacts. Also enables you to use a small voltage to control many higher voltages for distribution.

2003 ford explorer windows stopped working

Are ALL your windows disabled? Nothing works?
Okay,I don't have an Explorer manual, but check for a large fuse out in the engine compartment that might say it's for door locks.
The reference for the fuse location is usuall in the cover of the fusebox.
Relays (little squarish boxes in the same fusebox) can also go bad,or shake loose.
I HOPE the problem is not the control module.don-ohio (:^)

Bad relays? Or a wire problem? Hidden master component?

Moving the wires and making the relays work would point to a faulty connection in the fuse box area or something in the harness.
I would want to know if the relays are missing power or ground signals.

What fuse is the windshield wiper fuse in a 2001 ford taurus?

Check on Passenger Fuse Compartment the position 15 30AMP for Front Wiper Motor. Additionally, in the Fuse Box (underhood) check position 25 - Wiper Speed Relay and 29 - Wiper Park Relay (blank space) but could have some use.

Other details in the 2001 taurus owners manual.

Twilight Sentinal Malfunction

There is a relay under the dash, on a fuse block with a black plastic cover. Usually the cover is labeled "Fuse and relay center" or "Power and relay center". Inside you'll find several large blade style fuses and quite a few relays. There are normally two or three relays associated with your lighting. In many mid nineties and up GM products, you have a relay for rear lighting, one for front lighting, and a separate relay labeled "DRM" or "DRL". You're looking for that one. This is the daytime running light relay. Odds are that relay has burnt out and needs replaced.
